Very exciting news! And I'm sure Yavar will be pleased with this new updated edition of SPYS!

Cool! I wonder how many of these volumes are planned in total. I might get a few of them!

Interesting cover art. I guess an illustration closer to Joanne Woodward's look in the film wouldn't be sexy enough.

I was hoping for "Return of the Blue Macks".

I know, but this forum has an extremely small character limit for thread titles, so I could not fit them in.

I added the movie spelling for anyone trying to research the film elsewhere, or searching this site in the future. Doesn't help that the artwork makes the asterisks look like bullet holes.

It's the same illustration used on the poster:

I think it looks like her:

Great release, by the way.

How substantial is the score for S*P*Y*S?
There seems to only be a couple 9 minute suites up on youtube.

I already have earlier FSM release of The Stripper (and love it!), so a purchase will come down to how worthwhile the other "S" title is.

Well Mose, Yavar loves it, but I think it is easily in his Top 3 Worst Scores Ever.
Excruciating comedy music that just isn't funny.
It's truly terrible.

Thanks for the feedback Kev.

I'm not averse to comedy scores, but I need to exercise more restraint in general.
Looks like this will be a good one to push off for a much later purchase.

The Stripper underwent breast augmentation - all restored + expanded. 2 C-D cups.

Well, Varese only included 19 minutes of the score on their pricey rare and OOP Goldsmith at Fox box. That's where those YouTube suites come from. You should still give them as listen as they should inform you about whether you'd like the score. To me, it plays very much as a proto-Dante score, a zany and energetic everything-and-the-kitchen-sink comedy approach along the lines of Gremlins 2 or Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Do you like those scores? Then you are probably going to like this... my favorite cue is "Anybody Got a Key?" which falls at 3:07 in the first YouTube suite. It features balalaikas, Russian choir, and classical music quotes...I guess it gives Kev a headache but I find it tons of fun, particularly in the right mood. And I've never seen the film and can't speak to whether the music is "funny" in context...but it most certainly is FUN to this Goldsmith fan anyway.

Opinions and taste sure are funny. Kev and I often agree on a lot of scores and composers (we both love Holdridge), but I love SPYS while he finds it "excruciating", and he loves Extreme Prejudice, while I...well, if I were to call any Goldsmith score "excruciating" and "bottom 3" it would be Extreme Prejudice. Go figure!

I already have earlier FSM release of The Stripper (and love it!), so a purchase will come down to how worthwhile the other "S" title is.

If you love The Stripper that much you should know that MV just wrote this in the LLL thread:
"SPYS and STRIPPER are remastered and expanded...also includes Jerry's one FLAMING STAR track"

I'm a little surprised the latter was included here instead of with a Goldsmith Fox western, but maybe LLL put out all of those they wanted to recently enough, and this new series will be mostly western-free...in any case it's fantastic that this superb cue is making it to CD.

Very excited to see the full programs and how much more there is for each score. The Stripper was ~45 minutes on FSM and the Varese SPYS suite was almost 19 minutes. So the existing releases of music from both would fit on one CD with plenty of room to spare. The fact that this is a 2-CD set is incredibly exciting to me as a Goldsmith fan!

Yes, our differing tastes in the face of such usual similarities can be quite strange, but I guess that's what keeps things fun.
Hope you enjoy all that extra SPYS music, Yavar smile
