Dearth? Maybe... They walloped a punch when the little girl and her foster mom called the white male lead a coward at the beginning of the film. Totally uncalled for and another sh*t on white man pandering.

It’s highly amusing when in a conversation about a silly monster movie the idea of fairness and accountability (pejoratively called „wokeness“) are criticized as spoiling one’s pleasure.

Yet most woke movies and television series bomb or under perform. The audience doesn't like to be insulted, fancy that.

Most people - normal people - just want to be entertained and not be subjected to a Maoist struggle session. Imagine that.

What do you consider to be a "woke" film? According to the internet, Black Panther, Star Wars, Fast and Furious, Get Out, Captain Marvel, and now Godzilla vs. Kong are all woke films/franchises right?

All huge box office smash hits. Are there box office failures? Absolutely. But woke or not, people go see good films and reject the bad ones.

Setting up a false equivalency, virtue signaling while simultaneously lecturing. Trifecta!

Dear. God. Never during the entire time watching this (terrible) movie think "oh no, the fragile white men will be offended." I did however slightly worry that flat earthers might start thinking the hollow earth conspiracy is true and that the earth has a sun in its center, but I didn't look for anything to twist around and be offended by. (Also, how is gravity supposed to work?! The center of the earth is pushing Kong and the humans down away from the center instead of pulling objects together?! And why is it basically 2 flat horizons?! Wouldn't it be more spherical?! Why would it look like the earth's surface? And again, WHY IS THERE A SUN IN THE HOLLOW EARTH SKY?! I think I'm applying too much logic and common sense to this movie.)

As for the music... I feel like in the movie it has a bit more of an organic orchestral sound than when I listened to the samples. And I can see why people say they heard stuff similar to Blade Runner, but only due to the weirdly used synthesizer moments.

Overall I didn't like the movie or the score. I loved Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island (scores and movies), but this and King of the Monsters (minus parts of the score) were awful. But I guess at least this one had cool neon buildings? Sure.

Hahaha! Probably my favorite reply in Commando, and there are many, many, many great ones in that film.

Maybe people have different definitions of the word "woke." I didn't see this as a woke film. Don't see how a lady scientist calling a white male scientist a "coward" as pandering if fit within the context of the dialogue. This doesn't make sense to me.

oh no, the fragile white men will be offended.

I didn't see this either.

This is 100% spot on. If you see this movie as "woke" or feel stepped on then you went looking for something to be upset about. You just need to stop watching movies and go sit in the corner if THAT is your complaint about this film. God, people just want to get bent out of shape over things any more.

Well I was offended. I was offended that Skarsgård didn't take off his shirt at least once.

Not sure who complained about the “coward” joke (because I have them muted), but that’s not a legitimate complaint. It’s reaching, pure and simple. Ignore.

I spent one sentence on the topic and my entire movie review on the other side of the board doesn't even mention the woke. Seems the woke are more outraged when you call them out.

I saw this in a theatre last week and while it's a better popcorn movie than Godzilla: King of the Monsters, it doesn't have any of the distinctive qualities of Godzilla 2014 either.

The first 40 mins are almost tedious with too many characters and cluttered storytelling. Once the monster fights begin, it becomes a passably entertaining genre movie.

I can't remember much of the score so it must not have had much of an impression on me.

And I went out of my way to mention that there was a "dearth"of woke, and yet the delicately patterned, solid phase of water entities inevitably melted as reliably as summer follows spring.

Movies have often been political from the very beginning of cinema, the classic example being The Birth of a Nation. It's a racist film which glorifies the Ku Klux Klan, but it's also probably the most influential film ever made:

I liked it. Saw it in a theater because I'm not quivering in fear. The score was bleh business as normal. Awesome monkey on reptilian action! Aside from hammering on the conspiracy vibe with the whistler blower dude, and making the robozilla guys the illuminaughty villains (not like that's even unusual) I didn't see any woke issues. Oh, maybe the fact the monster stompled HK but not the mainland, probably is just to appease the money sources. Woke- lol I have a long history with this board, and I can't even keep track of the offended people and flame wars over the years. It doesn't matter what it is, someone will find a need to issue an angry rebuke, or taunting ego stroke to themselves meant to draw others in to a neverending circl-- soap opera. The difference today is you can get cancelled, banned, doxxed and more if you're on the wrong side of the political spectrum, or worse if you're not on any of the spectrums.

Aside from completely losing the China business if they stomp the mainland, I don't think China would even give them the permit to shoot there after reviewing the script.

I think part of the issue might be how you start out your post by passively implying that people who are staying safe and not going to the theater are "quivering in fear." It's not really relevant to a discussion about scores or movies, but more just an attempt to get a dig at people who may be following the advice of professionals and local guidelines.

Pivoting from the "woke" narrative to the "official narrative" narrative.
