I've pledged as well. Really looking forward to reading through these.

Add one backer for the hardcover. Also add one more vote for correcting the flopped cover image of Vol. 2.

It sounds like the cover of volume 2 *is* now being fixed - which is excellent news!

I went in for the hardcover versions.

Me, too. Had to! I went for the signed bookplates, too - one level above my budget but this book is going to blow our minds.

What's the point with flipping the 2nd cover? I don't get it.

How much do both Volumes cost?

Depends on the format. $35 for digital text only. $45 for digital with images. $75 for softcover. $95 for hardcover. More details and options at the Kickstarter link!

It's a mistake on someone's part.

Because the image of Goldsmith is back to front. You can tell because he's holding the baton in his left hand.

2. The pages are black and white? I get the cost implications of producing this in colour, but that's a shame - especially since the description refers to "dazzling artwork". Even the digital version is black and white? Odd.

Yeah, would be nice if they added a "color" version, especially now that the Kickstarter obviously already reached its goal. Also, a slipcase edition.

I too would be interested in a color edition (obviously some photographs and such would still be black and white, no doubt). At the very least I don't understand why the illustrated digital download edition wouldn't be in color! Not being printed physically, it presumably shouldn't have increased costs to be in color rather than B&W.

I haven't yet contributed (though I definitely will), because I am still undecided which version I should now pick. I see some of the bonus add-ons like the Planet of the Apes Box-set are already gone, but that's okay, as I have those scores already. I basically want the books.

Up until the end of the Kickstarter (which is also when backers' payment methods get charged) you can always change your selection. That includes if the person running the Kickstarter adds other options during the campaign.

I noticed the cool video (as well as an image above in this thread) includes some La-La Land albums like CaboBlanco, The Swarm, The 'Burbs, Archer/Warning Shot, and their out of print edition of I.Q./Seconds... I didn't notice any of these among the available perks to select. Were they add-ons? Or might they be included on perk options that will be added later?

I was just about to ask the exact same question as Yavar RE: The Swarm, Burbs, Cabo Blanco, IQ, Archer CDs as well.

Hopefully, now that the goal has not just been met but smashed maybe additional options / upgrades may be looked at.

I don’t think having color photographs is the difference between a book about Goldsmith’s career being definitive or not, Thierry. This didn’t have to have photos at all, to be definitive in my view. They’re a bonus. I hope they are able to give a color option but photos aren’t remotely what make me want to own this book. And plenty of books are published professionally, not at all fanzine-like, but in B&W only, not with color photos. Doesn’t make them shoddy in any way like you seem to think. It’s quite common and adding color printed page inserts IS expensive and additional complication (since it’s a different printing process and a different kind of paper) so I understand why it wasn’t that way to start out. (I do still wonder why black and white would be the default for the digital edition).

At such a pricy 95$ + postage budget, I still hope some colors inserts in the paper edition...
The labor-of-love body of work certainly deserves it...but I would go with a B&W only edition as well of course.

Jon Burlingame's excellent MUSIC FOR PRIME TIME doesn't suffer from its black and white and greyscale palette. In fact, it adds an air of classiness to the layout. It's also true that at least 90 percent of the book covers periods when black and white stills were not only common, but actually preferred for print.

The JERRY GOLDSMITH COMPANION covers a lot of the same period, so to me it's logical the stills inside it would be black and white.
