I would just like to add to this thread that we do appreciate what the labels do for us, and when we complain it isn't just because we're impossible to please nitpickers, but also because, as Shaun said, we REALLY CARE.
, too bad Goldsmith didn't come back for the sequel.
It really isn't considering Silvestri's Mummy Returns is one of my favorite scores, ever.
I hardly knew JG Mummy till more recently. This is a strong score that i missed out on at the time Goldsmith's sequel would of been cool. I honestly never knew there was a return & Silvestri took over I'll see what I'm missing.
All these complaints and nobody has complained yet that they didn't release the actual piece Goldsmith wrote for the end titles as a standalone track, presenting it instead only in the music-edited version with the music already included earlier on the disc? Why on earth would ANYONE want that?
This is a more than justified question. The End Credits edit is just a disorganized, aimless compilation that Jerry Goldsmith would never have accepted, because it has no musical course or sense. An awful copy-paste job with terrible sounding transitions. I think Intrada committed this to satisfy even the most insane fanatics that want everything as presented in the movie.
You should go to the JWFan forum, there are plenty of complaints about this choice.
This puts me in mind of the DE for Star Trek: Nemesis. An otherwise enjoyable presentation has the piss taken out of it last minute by the baffling decision to include the film edit of the end credits over what Goldsmith composed. Some could (and have already) say that some people may prefer the end credits as they are in the movie, but I don't think I've ever read a complaint about the lack of a film's editorially-created end credits on an album. In fact, I remember people complaining about the inclusion of them on RoboCop as well as Total Recall (before people realized that Goldsmith composed bridging material that connected two pieces). It's an odd decision to say the least. I say if fans want it they can cut it together themselves instead of labels concluding the film score proper with jarring edits.
When I saw that this thread was over 200 posts long I came in excited to read what everyone was saying about the music but no. It's usual thing of 50 straight posts being about a crackle or pop in the first 9 seconds of the second cue or the "why did they include this instead of that?" stuff. Really guys?

Hey, man, I gave it the ol’ college try on July 25th, but it didn’t take.

To be fair, people have had 20 years to talk about the music. The music isn't new. The CD is new - so obviously the technical merits of the disc is the focus of people's attention right now.

Yes and no. We've had 20 years to talk about the original release. This is a greatly expanded one with tons of new material. You'd think we'd be more focused on that.

The music has been in the movie for 20 years. It's also been available in a complete form as a DVD "hidden feature" (with source music mixed in). The complete score is VERY familiar to Goldsmith fans.

All true. I've had the unmentionable for several years YET it should be about the music. I have the expanded release now and any flaws on it are no big whoop as far as I'm concerned. But by the comments here you'd think people were getting cheated out of their income tax returns.
