As I'm still a poor student at the moment I couldn't really afford this set...thankfully my parents asked me what I wanted for my 30th birthday and they were generous enough to get THIS for me. I know, I'm really lucky. It arrived in the mail yesterday and I can't wait to listen to it this weekend...it's BEAUTIFUL. I already started reading the booklet.
Well, as I tend to do with many of these extensive box sets and that is to create custom "highlights" collections from them, I have absorbed this great 6-disc set and assembled a 2-disc collection of what I consider the highlights. Some suites are shortened, some episode scores are excluded and as always I try to go for maximum variety. The source cues really help for contrast to the score cues and since there are so many variations on "The Plot" across all 6 discs I went for the "less is more" angle. It didn't sell he full amount announced, it was discontinued; Mission: Not Accomplished.
This is sad reminder that if a set of TV scoring of some of TV's finest scoring, mentioned in the same breath with "Columbo", can't sell well, then there's little to no hope for sets of scoring from anything lesser than those two.
