The Bottomline is that this release is god damned good, one track has a slight sonic issue.

So they had a choice, include it or drop it?

which one would you have chosen?

Fix it...?

I have been reading this board for several years, but Ford A. Thaxton treatment of customers is really shocking... I'm shocked anyway. I couldn't believe he is serious.

You should read how Hainy treats HIS customers!

Lol!

Not sure if this has been picked up on yet but I just noticed Empty Rooms is not the album version as indicated on the back cover. In fact it is the extended version. Also, the last part of this cue sounds different than the last part of the album version and the unofficial release. I wondered if the new mastering had improved the sound but I don’t think so. Compare at 3:18 onwards on the old album with 3:43 on the deluxe and the unofficial. Am I going mad?

I just got mine in the infamous cardboard package and it is miraculously unscathed.

I don’t know about the issues reported here as I’m just listening to it now, but damn, I’m thrilled to finally have all this music. I went straight for Radek’s death and cranked it very loud.

Yeah. Just look at La La Land Records. Re-did a whole CD because of missing mixing bowls in one or two tracks. They didn't take the Varese option of simply dropping it "as is".

And it doesn't stop there. Just look at Intrada Records. Re-did "Judge Dredd" because they accidentally included the re-recording of Goldsmith's trailer music. They didn't take the Varese option of simply dropping it "as is".

Probably others I can't recall off hand. Only this new-ownership Varese seems to think this is the way to go.

I guess I'll just wait until it sells out and some other label re-issues it. I shouldn't have to pay for something only to have to pull a track fro ma bootleg to make it right.

Don't forget Intrada re-did Predator as well because people (I was one of those) didn't like the fact some tracks were edited and "Aftermath / The Pickup" was incomplete.

Varèse had a perfect opportunity to release a correct proper version of Star Trek 2009 but instead just slapped a re-release of the incomplete "Deluxe Edition" in a jeweled case.

I for one was just looking for confirmation about volume dips in one track. Other than that I am happy with the release for AFO.

The whole holier than thou attitude by certain board members reminds me as to why I hardly post here anymore. These members need to get off their soap and stop treating other members like shit because they think they know it all.

Actually "Predator" doesn't count; they were fixing a CD just released, they were making changes on a second issue that came out after the first issue sold out.

I clearly remember people posting about the way how the first release for Predator was done. Yes the first pressing sold out but I'm pretty sure the complaints of the first release is why they went back and did a proper release of the second pressing.

No, not a second pressing of the first release. The first release sold out. then went back and released it again, 'cause the studio also want it out. The changes were to the new one, so it's not an equal comparison.

It's a strange one to be sure. The volume level on that track is all over the place (less so the alternate version which closes disc 2). It doesn't just jump up/down as I expected, it's like someone is playing with a volume dial. Really off-putting.

Volume across the rest of the set is disappointingly low. I'm opposed to brickwalling, but this is the other extreme! Plus it all feels strangely... inconsistent. As if it was taken from a variety of different sources (the liner notes suggest as much, with DAT being the main source).

Also - really Varese - the package designer still hasn't figured out how to align track lists on the back of the tray card. As with Star Trek Beyond DE, the spacing between the track tiles on lines 2 and 3 is smaller than between all the other lines. A minor gripe, to be sure, but another unwanted distraction.

For Air Force One, I'd hoped for better.

Dan Schweiger's notes are thankfully excellent.

Volume levels are really weird on that one track. It’s almost as if it was taken from a 5.1 channel or something. The overall volume is fairly low for the entire album.

Volume wise most of the tracks seem to be on par with those from Varese's original album (which I always thought sounded great) except Escape From Air Force One which sounds somewhat subdued?

Can you provide a fixed complete version of this by any chance?

I used audacity to create one using parts of the Varese version without volume issues and the one that appeared on the unofficial, which had a slight clipping sound at one point. That one too had slight volume issues but nothing like this one of course.

Ahh, no. That would definitely land me in infringement territory.

Would anyone from Varese care to offer any info?

Understood. Can you give us info on how we fix our own tracks using something like Audacity or what you used there. As I say I have done something myself but not sure if it is the best job in the world. Thanks.

Love this release glad it’s out. It’s been on constant rotation in our home. Kept the groovy releases a coming! Glad I was mentioned in the special thanks along with Edwin Wendler, what an honor. smile
