Why are they even bothering? Didnt Crystal Skull already ruin the series legacy? Why tarnish it further? Bad enough that Ford ruins Han Solo by appearing in The Rehash Awakens and now thinks he can convincingly play Indy at 76!

Just reboot the series with a new actor and set it in the thirties where the character belongs.

I disagree. Ford was one of the biggest highlights of the FORCE AWAKENS -- amazingly going straight into his character in a slightly older version -- and proved he can easily do action roles for several more years. Plus, we don't know the extent of his role in this new movie. Maybe he'll have a more secondary role while other, younger actors get the main exposure (which they tried, albeit less successfully, with Shia in CRYSTAL SKULL).

Meh. Unless he plays a professor behind the desk (which I support) I think it's rather ridiculous. Imagine Angelina Jolie playing Lara Croft at 76.

Disney is willing to put up the money because they think it will make money, certainly. But as far as Spielberg is concerned, he seems genuinely responsive to fan reactions -- look at his about-face on the E.T. guns/cellphones outcry, for example, or the way he all but disowned TEMPLE OF DOOM -- and was probably disappointed by the thrashing KOTCS took from many die-hard fans. As I've said, I liked the film -- more than LAST CRUSADE in some regards, which I've never loved as much as most people seem to -- and it did good box office. But I'm not surprised if Spielberg and Ford feel like they want another crack at sending the character off in high style.

Indy 4 was the least of the series but I still liked it (especially any scene without Shia!).

I don't have high hopes for another installment but I'd rather a poor Indy film from Spielberg than another shit-dick Abrams reboot any day of the week. (This also kills any chance of Chris Pratt taking the role, thank the fuck Christ)

There´s no way that Ford will star in this alone or even as the main character.

Disney has not bought Indiana Jones for just one more movie. This one will set up an heir, and Chris Pratt is still very much in the running to take over as Indy´s "assistant".

Spielberg know this and will not disclose it until it´s time.

Fabulous news! big grin I thought Ford looked great in Force Awakens, and seemed fully invested in the role

It's funny because I was watching him in Force Awakens and thinking that he was playing Han as Indiana Jones.

This is like a boxer you are fond of announcing a comeback at 50 against a weak opponent, but getting knocked out and stretchered off after one round. And ten years later, announcing he's coming back AGAIN.

Ford's too old, Spielberg is shot to pieces, and Williams delivered possibly the most disappointing score of his career last time out.

Expect a disaster. Ambulances at the ready.

They should pass on the franchise torch to Chris Pratt as a new Indy and set the series back in the mid 1930's. Somehow, they should cast Ford as the older Indy with a cliffhanger opening adventure and then connecting the story to from Indy's past thus taking us back to 1930's. It could be an interesting way to restart the series with Chris Pratt. But as far as I know Spielberg wont do it without giving up Ford. With Lucas gone, we should expect a better more traditional Indy story with a proper realistic McGuffin to support the plot. At least I expect a more solid story this time (and no Mutt Jones please!)

Wonderful news! Crystal Skull was a brilliant movie, & Harrison Ford will only be in his mid-seventies. I'm sure John Williams will be delighted to write the same old music...& dare we hope that they can get Shia LaBeouf back as his son. Happy times ahead smile

I hope Shia comes back too, though he probably won't. I, for one, loved the family dynamic in Crystal Skull, especially seeing Junior in the role of his Henry Jones Sr. from The Last Crusade. That was fun. And Shia was fine in the film. Petty fanboys blow everything out of proportion and lack perspective.

Seeing the industries recent track record it will be a quasi remake of Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Mark my words!

Agreed! I think this is a chance for Spielberg to redeem himself after KOTCS since it was dismissed by many. He even said himself that he didn’t want to go the aliens route but Lucas forced his hand to go with that story. Indiana Jones doesn’t do X-Files, he goes after religious artifacts and that’s what was missed in Crystal Skull. They need to pass the torch to someone else but it needs to have a proper farewell to Ford’s iconic character. I’m optimistic, but we’ll see…the script has to be good. If for some reason Williams couldn’t score it, then it needs to go Joel McNeely who did excellent work on the Young Indiana Jones scores and who managed to capture Williams style while still incorporating his own ideas. He also needs a big blockbuster. I go back to his scores constantly.

So is Harrison Ford now just re-hashing every role he's famous for, for a quick buck? We've got Star Wars, Indy and Blade Runner coming up... can only be a matter of time before he goes into hiding again in the Amish community.

Nothing wrong with giving the people what they want. These are iconic roles, he's a movie star. And yes, he'll earn more than a few bucks (which I think is why most of us work, isn't it?) but what other than your cynicism makes this a "quick buck"?

So if Crystal Skull took place in 1957 and was influenced by the sci-fi and B-movies of the era, what will the late 60's bring? Hippies and Quaaludes? Indiana Jones and the Lost Bong of Woodstock? That would be different...

That's hilarious! The movie could get more and more bizarre as it goes, before finally being revealed as just an acid trip.

Then Indy is euthanized because he's hopelessly addicted to that damn evil marijuana.

Unlike all other roles he has signed on for in recent years, he has not signed on for a script or even a story. He has signed on for a hefty fee and a release date.

And in each case he has previously decried returning to these roles. Now he cant stack 'em up quick enough, and is signing on before anyone agrees there's a shootable script. The only one to have surfaced so far had the entire script thrown out after Ford had signed on. [If I was being uber-cynical, I'd add here that despite the tens of millions he was paid for this in both a fee and a percentage, he is also seeking tens of millions more via a lawsuit]

You might not see a change to Ford's M.O. with regards to what he is choosing, and how careful he is being (or not), especially in comparison to his younger self and contemporary film stars returning to signature roles. But it looks blindingly obvious from here.

You don't know the state of this project. Lucasfilm has reportedly had an office for developing Indiana Jones ever since Disney bought them almost four years ago. To assume that Spielberg and Ford are jumping in without anything is a)presumptuous and b) inconsistent with their histories.

If Disney had a script everyone was happy with, this would be announced for 2017.
