Yes, I've looked elsewhere but haven't had any luck.

And you're right, I've had plenty of time to purchase it. But what I was trying to say is that it is difficult to find the funds to purchase all of the great releases we've had these past years. Yes, I've grabbed most of what I've wanted. But lately, I've been prioritizing purchases on older titles based on what I think will be going out of print soon. So I try to keep an eye out for the low quantity alerts.

I'm sure many of us on this board have missed some titles before they sold out.

Didn't actually mean to be that snarky before, but the labels did warn this 'buy now if you want it' philosophy was going to be the new norm. They are surely so busy with other things, they can't continually update stock reports to us.
I'm shocked, as requested as ST was, it took this long to vanish.

Remember, there were bum copies that went out initially so proceed with caution in hunting the secondary market....

I don't think it took all that long, considering it was a $30 release at 3000 copies. For a score not by Williams or Goldsmith, that's pretty dang impressive.

No one can possibly buy every release out there, well I had read there are some on people that are able to do that here, but this one is a masterpiece from Poledouris. This runs rings around most of the score released today.

Staying with my college roomie (Scott) in Marina Del Ray.
He used to be neighbors with Basil in the yacht club. Got some good stories this week of hanging out with Basil on his boat and having drinks. Scott's favorite movie ever is Hunt For Red October.

Scott: "Where did that old Russian Hymn come from during the opening credits?"
Basil: " No no, I made that up."
Scott: "WHAT!?"

RIP good sir

I need some feedback, I'm contemplating getting the expanded, but not sure.

1) Your thoughts on the expanded versus the original? I like the original, short but to the point.

2) For peeps like me who do the majority of the listening on long car trips, is it worth it?

3) Which would you choose: Starship Troopers or Who Framed Roger Rabbit Expanded?

Aaaaaand go!

My take on it:

1) Your thoughts on the expanded versus the original? I like the original, short but to the point.

I find the expanded version superior. The additional material is more than just repetition, it fills out the score and makes it a better listening experience to my ears.

2) For peeps like me who do the majority of the listening on long car trips, is it worth it?

Yes. See above.

3) Which would you choose: Starship Troopers or Who Framed Roger Rabbit Expanded?

I'd have to go with Starship Troopers on that one. Though I do like Roger.

I just received Starship Troopers and I'm already disappointed. Not with the music but on Disc One Track One. At about 0:23 -0:34 the sound has glitches or drop outs. I don't know if it's just my disc or the whole first pressing are like this. But it's bad enough for a replacement disc. Varese will have no choice to address this problem if there are a lot like this. Most haven't received their disc. So, we'll see.
Please let this forum know if you have the same sound problem.

Found more glitches on Disc Two, Track One. Starting at 0:26-0:34. If it's not just mine and it is the whole first pressing. Varese should stop shipping these out and get it fixed.

What? So if you got a defective copy from a non-Varese source, what are the chances that you'll get a non-defective copy? Or do I have to buy another copy?

Varèse replaced all copies, but of course cannot guarantee that unscrupulous customers didn't sell their faulty CDs.

Interesting. I checked SAE earlier and it was listed as Sold Out. At any rate, I've received a very gracious offer from Adam, and am making arrangements with him to get a copy of this wonderful music. Generosity and offers like this totally make this forum worthwhile.

I didn't know about these issues either, I just picked this up not long ago. Is there a way to tell if you have a bad copy?

There's an elephant memory out there of the Glitch Police who will give time codes, but I think it was the beginning of cd2 & it was noticable. ....not the usual "I heard a click at canine-audible levels under Sennheiser's maxed out at 4am". The master skipped. I think.

Yes, very easily. Play the first track. If within the first minute, the music glitches and drops out – it's not subtle, you can't miss it – you have a defective copy.

It sometimes takes me years to pick up a release, and then years after that to actually play it. Now I gotta rip the dang plastic wrap off of it and give it a spin.

1. The original album was incredible but all too brief. There are themes, ideas, and action cues essential to the score that are missing from the original. The expanded is absolutely the way to go.

2. Sure? Unless you don't like this kind of music in the car?

3. I'm not intimately familiar with WFRR. I've seen the film, however, and nothing in the music compelled me to rush out and buy it. Conversely, Starship Troopers is one of my favorite scores of all-time.

In conclusion: if you have to ask, maybe you should leave one of the few remaining copies for someone else to buy.
