Ado is free to voice his opinion. He's just straight forward. Our beloved forum owner Lukas is known for being brutally honest (and uncensored) but doesn't get the same backlash.

Ado doesn't own the forum...

Has there been much backlash? I just went through this whole thread and I don't really see it. The whole thing (including Ado's commentary) feels pretty tame to me!

(That's my backlash backlash.)

It was also parodied in Mr. Mom and I'm sure other programs, too. It's a piece of pop culture. As soon as you hear it, you know what it is and what it's doing.

Yep. As parody scoring goes, it's pretty low hanging fruit. (Not blaming Horner, who was clearly instructed to do this.)

I watched as much of this movie as I could stand when it was first on cable. I turned it off so it didn't contaminate my memory of the truly great Chuck Jones animated special. When the CG animated Horton Hears a Who! movie was released, the NY Times review began "What distinguishes 'Horton Hears a Who!' from the other recent Dr. Seuss film adaptations ('How the Grinch Stole Christmas' and 'The Cat in the Hat,' in case you need reminding) is that it is not one of the worst movies ever made.”

But I do remember thinking Horner did a nice job with the score. And happily, we can listen without watching.

Well, I'll soon put a stop to that!

** clarification: I'm joking. Just in case someone's just fell over their handbag.

"Will this be a 2-CD set?"
--------------
Tough call?
If it's just the expanded score release - about 70 minutes - it will fit on 1CD.
But if they've licensed some (or all) of the songs from the original album and are going to include the original album score programme, then 2CD it is.

I have said a lot of stuff, one thing I am certain I have never said "I own the forum"

That was a really odd thing for someone to say about me, really really weird

La-La Land Records, Universal Pictures, Imagine Entertainment and Interscope Records proudly present a remastered and expanded CD soundtrack release of acclaimed composer James Horner’s (STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN, GLORY, TITANIC) original motion picture score to the 2000 holiday feature film blockbuster DR. SEUSS’ HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS, starring Jim Carrey and directed by Ron Howard. Composer James Horner’s orchestral score to this live action feature film, based on the classic short story and TV special, had the unenviable task of reinventing a classic – and the Maestro more than delivers with a brilliant work that is genuinely moving while also capturing the fiendishly comic personality of The Grinch. Remastered and expanded with previously unreleased music, this presentation of Horner’s score exemplifies why the work is a notable title in the composer’s legendary canon. Produced by Neil S. Bulk and Mike Matessino, and mastered by Matessino from studio vault elements, this limited edition CD release of 3000 units also features exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer Jeff Bond and classic art design by Jim Titus.

The promo CD from way back when featured the same songs. This looks like it’s essentially a legitimate version of those contents.

As a reminder, "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" are two songs already present in the 1966 cartoon, whose music was composed by Albert Hague and the lyrics signed by Dr. Seuss himself.

Regarding James Horner: Before the filming in September 1999, he composed the melody of "Christmas, Why Can’t I Find You?". The lyrics of the short version sung by Cindy Lou in the film are written by Will Jennings. Just before the release of the film they will be completed by Mariah Carey and Horner for the pop version "Where are you Christmas."

Horner and lyricist Cynthia Weil also worked on four other songs before the filming. Horner describes them as follows: "I would say four of them a character song sung by the cast. Nothing really on camera just sort of in the background, or there's a shopping song and another song about the holidays and things like that."

Only one of these four songs appears in the album published in 2000 and in the new edition of 2022: "Happy Who-Lidays". This song is heard in the first scene of the film with the band marching through the village.

The other three songs composed by Horner can be heard in the film:

"How I Love Who-liday Shopping"
At the 9th minute of the movie when the Whos drop off their gifts at the Whoville Post Office and when Cindy Lou is talking to her father.

"Who-bilation"
At the 36th minute of the movie when the Whos have decided to invite the Grinch and explode with joy. The chants echo through the Grinch's cave and he ends up singing the song despite himself. The melody of this song is covered by Horner at the beginning of the track "Grinch As Cheermeister" when the Grinch is carried by the Whos and has to taste all their food.

"Come, Come All Ye Whos."
At the 38th minute of the film, the song is heard after the jackhammer scene when Cindy Lou knocks on the Grinch's door, goes through the doggie door and walks up to the Grinch.

Faith Hill sang 'Where Are You Christmas' for the album song version.

Yes, I was talking about the lyrics. Mariah Carey came to James Horner's studio to expand the song.

She even recorded her version. Two years ago she said that she liked her version very much but that she was reluctant to release it because she didn't want to compete with Faith Hill's version.
