A real dream release IMO would be a definitive soundtrack for ALL of the music from LEGEND. I'm a fan of the movie in all incarnations & absolutely love Goldsmith's & the Dream's contributions.
I had read so many comments about "The Hall of Columns" track that I was disappointed when it wasn't used in the Director's Cut(the scene is tracked with the "Main Title").
I would love to hear this cue.
Plus, Tangerine Dream's score as heard in the picture is almost completely unreleased.
I really enjoy the original album release, but I would welcome the complete score tracks along with a lot of other people.
Of course, a release like this would more than likely be a cost prohibitive licensing nightmare.

I recently revisited the Director's Cut on video, and have been listening incessantly to the latest Silva Screen release on Apple Music streaming.

It's a knockout score for a movie whose 15-percent off-the-rails content managed to hamper the whole movie. I'd love to see a full-blown CGI recreation of the film. Keep the Director's Cut soundtrack just as it is...only recreate the visuals entirely in the digital realm, using the film imagery as its basis.

Just musing.

Hmmm, that could be interesting, but I actually still like the full sets and practical FX in "Legend" as seen now, even if that movie overall is a kind of a misfire.

Just musing...or kidding? Why would you want to replace all that craft and artistry with...digital crappyness !
Amazing score. The Dress Waltz absolutely mesmerized me as a kid and then the reveal of Big D. Outstanding!

I'd still like to see a version of the movie with Goldsmith's score in place as intended. There's a lot of slicing, dicing and switching around even in the director's cut and a lot of music unused.

Absolutely. Goldsmith´s score is one of my favorites, and it would have been perfect if it had been used as it is.

Although I absolutely loved his PSYCHO II score I have always been irritated whenever that track appears in LEGEND.

Which is terribly distracting when watching the film and actually diminishes the viewing experience for me.

Similar to that ST:TMP "Director's Edition" edit in the "Klingon Battle" which still feels like a poke in the eye to this day.

Ridley was not very good with composers.
That TD score as a separate bit of music, maybe it is fine.
In that film it pulls the whole thing into some knock-off MTV rave feel, just terrible.

Love the movie and one of my favorite Goldsmiths scores.
Tangerine Dreams score is horrible in my opinion and ruins the magical feel ...

The reason this movie is considered "terrible", "a misfire", is that it was never really finished. Ridley Scott can be a Michelangelo with his movies if he's given the time and resources to perfect them. This one never got that chance. The only reason I can sit through it is the Goldsmith score. And yes, there are many missing minutes of music in that Goldsmith cut.

As for purists who would never touch a "completed work", well, ask Mr. Scott whether it's finished.

It’s funny reading comments between different types of forums. On film and blu-ray discussion forums the subject of LEGEND often has more folk say they grew up with the TD and can’t stand the Goldsmith score. They prefer the ‘new age’ feel of the movie with TD at the helm rather than the ‘old fashioned’ overblown Goldsmith one. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course.... even if it’s wrong wink

The ghastly music edits alone could put someone off the score (if not the film as well):

I think this may have been posted in another thread a few years ago, but this is an interesting interview with Legend editor Terry Rawlings, in which he touches on his contentious relationship with Goldsmith...

https://animatedviews.com/2015/conversation-with-terry-rawlings/

We did Legend, and then on Legend I went and re-mixed one of his bits of music because I said we’re not getting the best out of this stuff. He went barmy, but he was right to do so. We had this showdown in the cutting rooms. There’s Ridley – this is into the night – Ridley’s over there, I’m sitting at a Steenbeck, and Goldsmith’s saying, “This can be cut, it can be cut!” So I said “Alright then! Alright”. Ridley said “You’ve got to do something because I’ve got to make a decision”. So I said to Goldsmith, “Right, you tell me where you want it cut”. We’re running it, and counting…and Goldsmith said “There!” I said, “Fine, okay, and you want to lose what, how many bars?” Very nasty, I was and he was, toward each other.

So in the end, got it marked up, take it off, wind down…the cutter didn’t work to cut the stuff! I’m going like this and it won’t cut, and I thought “Now I can’t even get the bloody cutter to work!” But I did get it to cut, and played it, and it worked. He said “Listen”…took his glasses and said, “I wouldn’t come in here and cut your film. I wouldn’t presume to come in and take your film and cut it, and I don’t expect you to take my music and do this”. I said “I’m very sorry about that, but you’re going to have to forgive me for my enthusiasm”, because that’s the reason these things are done. We really never really got on very well, but we did one more film: we did Not Without My Daughter, which he scored – I don’t think he did a very good score, but I don’t think he wanted to do it.

Rawlings is just like Ridley, the music is just some crap to move around and cut and splice without any musical sense at all.
Ridiculous.

I think the intent of the Tangerine Dream replacement score was to satisfy some execs who wanted the score to mimic Vangelis' Blade Runner score. My opinion only.

In the Making of Legend, on the Blu-ray, Ridley says, it was the perfect example of a director fucking up his own film on his own by having a last minute panic. He wanted so bad for his film to appeal to the young audience that he freaked out not long before the release and hired TD on the fly to rescore the whole movie.
Luckily for kids in Europe, we got the Goldsmith score. Which sadly wasn't enough to save the film.

Rawlings forgot one detail: he and Goldsmith also worked together on U.S. Marshals

My second favourite Goldsmith score. Papillon will always be number 1.

Arrow is working on a new Blu-Ray release. Not sure if it will have what you want, but at least it will be getting a more premium release.
