I’m looking forward to having a clean version of the main titles that doesn’t segue into the action stuff. Makes it easier for my compilation playlists.

Such a great theme.

^^^^ THIS.

Well, this is great news. A hugely entertaining score with some real balls to the wall music. Very happy here. Thanks to everyone involved, and now since I'm gainfully employed again, my bank account didn't scream in pain when I clicked the order button.

Glad to hear it, Mike

That. Also I presume it would be a rights mess and probably very difficult to release. Plus we don't know if Randy Newman and/or the production company want that score to be released.

A certain version of Randy Newman's score has been out there for a long time.

In my opinion Randy Newman's score is not that great and is weak. I can see why the producers hired Goldsmith to redo the score.

I'm super glad this finally got a Deluxe Edition treatment. It's about damn time!

I really wished there had been samples of film version tracks instead of ones that were mostly on the original album.

How many minutes of score are contained in the film proper?
How.much was composed solely by Jerry?

Thanks!

2db quieter than the original Varese CD? I hope not.

Honestly, I never understood why this one was so popular. Its a standard flare Goldsmith. Not bad or great. Just good.

This one reminds me of Starship Troopers. Especially the main theme. Am I wrong? Not a bad thing

This one reminds me of....

And The Edge. And Executive Decision. And U.S. Marshals.

Again, all really good. But not masterpieces.

Those composer credits are direct from the cue sheet.

Just wondering if anyone knows the working process for those Goldsmith+McNeely songs - if they split them in half, if Goldsmith did sketches and handed off to McNeely, if McNeely did them all and incorporated Goldsmith's themes...

Hopefully the liner notes will explain more.

Also, the Varese excerpt of "Target Air Force One" totally has these ascending "echoing" horns straight out of "Patton"! Pretty cool since I haven't heard this song yet.

That's what my loudness analyzer displayed when I compared The Hijacking cues. I could see it too in the waveform.

You might want to listen to the episodes of the podcast The Goldsmith Odyssey where Yavar interviews Robert Townson. They spend some time talking about AFO and Townson shares specifics about the Goldsmith-McNeely collaboration for certain cues.

Certainly better than 10db louder like the Townson era.

Re: K.V. Lectures

It took two composers to write a 30 second cue?

Jerry: I'll do the first 20 seconds.
Joel: Ok Jer.

I'm only purchasing this for the McNeely stuff.

True, not great Goldsmith. By the 90's he got pretty simplistic with his writing and rather repetitive. But he could still write a killer main theme that is the thrust of the score. I think this is one of his better scores of this period.
