As to him starting fights, he said he’d like to murder Trekkies on the non-filmscore side of the board.

In the first 30 seconds there's a montage of "Florida Man" newspaper stories featuring men claiming to be Thor and Capt. Kirk (at 12 and 24). Coincidence?

Count me in for a purchase as well. I missed the first pressing.

There will be a new pressing. In fact it's been remastered to match Shawn Murphy's original mastering from the Hollywood CD many people became married to.

Awesome! Thanks Roger.

Ark Square has been sold out for a long time.

Wait... I never owned any Rocketeer soundtrack so I would have no idea what this means. Does that mean it will sound worse or better?

So Intrada is going to use some compression.

That and the increased level of mastering used for several years now is not a good news.

If you like dynamics and soundstage, it will sound worse.

If you like a louder sound with less subtleties and nuances, it will sound "better".

And everyone's a winner.
If you loved the old/original CDs sound, here's an expanded edition with THAT sound.
If you didn't like the original mastering technique, keep hold of the first Intrada expanded pressing and continue to live a happy life.
This seems like a similar situation to Dressed To Kill, where Intrada also listened to customer feedback and gave everyone the best of both worlds.
Now, if they can re-sequence the non-Horner composed songs out of the programme (to disc2), so the full dramatic score fits on CD1...even better wink

You're right about The Rocketeer. But there won't be any choice for future releases if Intrada starts to use compression.

Intrada was the only label which didn't want to use compression. Now, there won't be any. frown

I doubt this issue will force Intrada to change their ways, which, in general, are enthusiastically received by all parties.
They also use different engineers, from project to project, depending on the release.
Considering how many scores they have released, over the decades, there have only been a handful of occasions were customers have voiced any chorus of disapproval (I recall some cross-fade moans on things like Predator and Falling Down, plus the aforementioned Dressed To Kill reverb issue and a few complaints about The Black Cauldron sounding lifeless).
So, they pretty much are doing things spectacularly well, and I can't see that changing.

Why would they re-release this soundtrack to sound worse? Why not just re-release the same set?

Because some people don't like the wider dynamic range of the film soundtrack presentation.

So Douglass Fake has decided to apply some compression to please them. He had also decided a few years ago to increase the levels of his masterings.

The loudness war sucks!

Exactly!

This will be a welcome repurchase. The mastering on the original pressing is honestly what prevents me from playing my MP3 copy as often as I would like, so I'm glad to hear that this will be adjusted. While I'm extremely happy and grateful to have these expanded editions, I really appreciate it when I can listen to them without constantly fiddling with the volume controls.

Maybe that makes me an audiophile heathen to some but whatever.

And I completely agree on the Melora Hardin songs (still hard to believe that's Jan from The Office!). It would make more sense to put them at the end of the score as "bonus tracks"

This doesn't make any sense. Is this whole thing a joke? I haven't heard anything from Intrada's official announcements and this change in how their soundtrack was released doesn't make any sense.

Last time they did something like this was for their Predator release and at least that was sold as a different release all together. It's one thing to lose some tracks when a soundtrack is re-issued (Their soon to be upcoming Jaws re-release and Back To The Future), but why alter change the sound completely? Shouldn't this be treated as a completely sepearate release instead of a re-stock of what they did before?

Look on the previous page. Roger himself posted this information. Considering how many members here are customers, I think the only thing that could be more of an official announcement is actually putting up the product for sale.

But they did do it before, with Dressed To Kill.
Exactly the same situation.
They expanded the original edition, but changed the sound of it (Pino Donaggio scores generally have a wet, reverberated sound to them and their expansion dried things out).
People complained or vented their frustrations and they took another go at it.
Interestingly, on the two occasions they have done this, it was complaints from fellow soundtrack producers* that made Intrada sit up and take more notice, as opposed to the usual gripy fans.

*Bruce Kimmel of Kritzerland thumbed down the Dressed To Kill, and one (or both) of the MV's at LLL thumbed down The Rocketeer.
