The Willow/Tara one got two really beautiful statements in Ep12 just before Giles awakes as a Demon and somewhere in Ep16 and I HOPE that this is on the LLL Set (most likely "Spellbound"). Superstar. I like those type of episodes. Also a good score. I would like to see a 3-5 minute Suite from that episode on a possible Vol. 2 Set. And I LOVED how Jonathan was all over the place in the Intro Credits. That weird sex/haunted/strange House episode (Episode 18). Three musical highlights. The Recap, at ~3:30 and at ~9:20. While not as good as S3 the S4 plot arc was ok. Adam was kinda boring and the "Secret Organization" is an overused trope in media imo. Episode 22: "Restless" That one was really strange. Especially for a Season Finale. But the entirety of Xander's dream was brilliant. I loved the use of greenscreen in the Ice-Car and the long-shot, where he runs through every set piece of this Season. The use of sound and the absence of it was also amazing. Visually speaking, after "Hush" the best Episode. The score was just ok. It get's most likely better after more viewings. Highlights are definitively Xander's run through the Sets and the Desert music. I can understand someone declaring it the best of the series even if I prefer season 3. Thomas Wanker does an excellent job with the music and thankfully carries over some of Beck’s wonderful themes… that said the music overall doesn’t reach the heights of Beck’s work on the previous season — until maybe the season 5 finale, which Beck returned to score. If I didn't knew that there was a change in Composer, I wouldn't have noticed it. Sure, Wanker's style is a bit different, he seems to use more reverb and more metallic percussion but everything else is very close to Beck. I expected a change ala Murphy to Beck but I'm glad that this didn't happen at all. Wander's music is really good. I noticed some slight repetition in cues, like one action cue that was used at least three times and that "Love Montage" cue reapeared, slightly edited in Ep 9 or 10. Episode 1 had absolutely brilliant music through and through. Dracula's theme is a gem. Episodes 2-5 also had good music but I don't recall any specifics. Episode 6... while skipping through episodes again I noticed that I skipped this Episode by accident lol. Episode 7. My favorite of the Season so far. That endfight with Buffy and the Slayer before her in the Underground Train was awesome. Sadly only one of the China cues made it onto the LLL Set. I liked all of them. Episode 8 had this "Love Montage" cue. Really beautiful. Episode 10. "Riley's Departure". Simply WOW. 2 minutes of sorrowful, full orchestral music followed by 2 minutes of strings and a piano rendition of the Buffy/Riley love theme. I want this Set, La-La Land. Now. Its not the same sadly. Its much shorter and there are some vocals mixed in on it (from a season 6 episode) which makes it sound kinda weird and off. Its still a nice track, but not what I was hoping for it to be...in the episode I really love the piano part of the Buffy/Riley theme that ends the episode. With "Slayer's Elegy" one of the cues that got me into watching this show. I like the added vocals but the short part when Buffy arrives at the helicopter is different (https://youtu.be/BA2_w5rBHE0?t=118). I love how it switches from minor to major out of nowhere. And the strings at the beginning/end and the piano are missing. But it's still a very beautiful piece of music. But what I meant to explain was that it was "removed" or "not included" or whatever compared to the original version we know. I know that you didnt do it. Its the exact same version as on an old Wander promo CD Maybe, one day, if a Vol 2 happens (I know it will never, lol) you could include a "film version" of it as a bonus? It must be said a number of British fans were disappointed when he changed his English-language productions billing to Wander, thus robbing us of a giggle during the end credits of Buffy The Vampire Slayer (when he'd scored that episode at least).    Posted:   Sep 8, 2022 - 2:01 AM     By:   DaveM   (Member) 5x12 "Checkpoint" had two great unreleased cues ~22:40 when the Watchers asking questions ~39:40 Buffy's speech 5x17 "Forever" -That funeral cue and the Buffy/Angel theme. Episodes 11 & 13-15 also had good music but not great enough for me to notice, stop the episode and writing down timestamps. Ep15 was one of the weaker episodes imo but 11 & 12 where great. I don't know what to say about Spike... Due to the LLL tracklist I can already guess what will happen with him and Buffy (I also already knew about Joyces death but more on that later) but he was a really great character in Season 2 and now he is mostly comic relief. It's just really strange. Glory to you -- you're about to enter Wanker territory. ;-) I see now what you did there... I still didn't saw the last 5 episodes of Season 5 but I don't really like Glory as a villain. She's more interesting than Adam in S4 but not even close to Mayor/Faith in S3. Joyce. In my first post in this thread I called her annoying and now that I'm rewatching the first Season she is annoying again but she really became a great character somewhere in S3. I already knew that she don't survive this Season but I didn't knew when her death would happen. Episode 16 "The Body" was one of the hardest hours of television I've ever watched. All the acting was brilliant. The little moment of Buffy imagening Joice's survival and the hard cut back to the corpse was really tense. This episode is right up there with "Hush" and "Restless". I hope Sarah Michelle Gellar got an award or oscar or something for that acting. I hope everyone involved in this Episode got an award... Cool that Wheedon got Walter Murphy back to score this episode... joking aside the complete absence of music was a big reason why this episode was so hard to watch. It's unbeleavable how this show that started as the mediocre but still enjoyable camp-fest that was Season 1 got to Episodes like this. "The Gift" was also good. There's a lot of Willow/Tara music. As for the episode itself... I didn't really like the finale. It started great with a montage of the previous seasons and the 'oh god, my leg' scene was great but the entire Glory thing (or 95% of stuff after the opening credits) wasn't all that good imo. It felt like one 2hour movie playing at double speed. It wasn't the weakest episode of S5 but also not the best. But maybe I expected too much from the 100th episode that was initially a series finale. But I liked the grave "She Saved The World. A Lot". Off to Season 6! Well... I already watched Ep1. And I remember while I watched it as soon as the score started I just new Chris Beck had to be back for it (I didnt know before I watched the episode). Thankful that LLL included almost the complete score for it! "Sacrifice" or "Buffy Dies" (as the original long version on LLL box) is a masterpiece! The season is one of my favorites (after season 3). I liked Glory! lol! Season 6 is in my opinion the weakest. But it has its moments.    Posted:   Sep 11, 2022 - 1:10 PM     By:   DaveM   (Member) I forgot to mention that "Sacrifice/Buffy Dies" moment. A good theme that was reused to great effect in 6x02. And Wander did some good scoring in Episodes 1-6. Some bits are tracked from S5 but most oof the other cues are good. I will not make a season ranking yet because there still just under 40 Episodes that I need to watch but I think that S5 was kinda weak and Glory (and some Dawn scenes) are the main reason for that. The only Glory scene I liked was in the penultimate episode where she constantly changes with Ben and has and argument with him infront of Dawn. Back to Season 6... "Once More With Feeling". The first and last episode I watched with english audio because I wanted to hear the original not translated lyrics. Score highlight: That ballet music with Dawn. Song highlight: litterally the following moment sung by Sweet ("What You Feel"). But the other songs are good as well. They're surprisingly complex most of the time. And Wheedon had no idea of some voice ranges from the Actors. Nicholas Brendons lines could be higher and Amber Bensons ones are a bit to high imo but both did perform really well. But non of them beat Michelle Trachtenberg in this episode with doing ballet, acting as Dawn and singing all at once. The "Coda" is cool as well. Why can't all TV/Film scores have such bombastic endings? I love those. I hoped that they would get a real orchestra for this episode. Beck and Wander did an amazing job at hiding the 'fakeness' but It all sounded wrong here. Besides "Normal Again", an cool reality twist episode, the Season was not that great. I thought the Boy trio was a joke for one episode but they somehow managed to be the Season badguys. Well.. Duncans score is basically only metallic percussion. Cliffhanger music? Metallic Percussion! Action Music? Metallic Percussion! Tension/Suspense Music? Metallic Percussion! Duncan needed half a Season to get good but he delivered some fine cinematic stuff in the second half. The chosen theme in particular. Douglas Romayne. Why did he got only two episodes? And more important: Why is nothing of his music on the LLL Set? These are the two best scored episodes in Season 6 & 7 imo. Season 7 had an awesome start with a new school over the hellmouth. Kinda 'back to the roots'. I was really impressed by the first half. There are some really great episodes in it. Espacially "Same Time, Same Place" & "Conversations With Dead People". But as the Season Plot started, it got weaker again. Not as weak as S6 but the overall tone was way too serious. This show can handle seriousness in single episodes like "The Body" but the overall Plot needs more fun. It was also very generic. Just 'I'm the ultimate evil and here's my infinite evil army. EVERY Season plot before 7 was more interesting. The finale was not as good as I hoped but I still enjoyed it more than all of the second half of S7. Angels return was great and that scene when Buffy, Willow, Xander and Giles are in school just before the battle, split up with Giles mirroring the line from 1x02 was a bittersweet moment. And Buffy being relieved from her Slayer duties was a great ending point for an awesome show. And here the inevitable rankings of everything: Seasons #7: SEASON 6. Not great. Willow going evil was very predictable but in the end one of the better handled parts of S6. Most of the episodes except "Normal Again" and "Once More, With Feeling" vere incredible mediocre and the Doublemeat Palace stuff was just cringe. 5/10. #6: SEASON 7. Good start but got very weak and hearing that the end is near for the seventh time wasn't that intriguing anymore. 6/10 #5: SEASON 5. Didn't really like Glory. Her changing constantly with Ben was fun though. Dawn was also not that great from the beginning. 7/10 #4: SEASON 1. The most '90 thing I've ever watched. While having the flaws of a first Season it still has a lot of charm. The only weak parts are the Master and Murphys score. 7.5/10 #3: SEASON 4. I never expected that Buffy would leave the high school in the entirety of the show but it happened and was handled really well. Beck's music was at it's peak and most of the episodes are fantastic. Oh, and "Hush" is in it... 8/10 #2: SEASON 2. The Season 1 charm but expanded and better. Spike. Angel and Angelus. Good stuff here... 8/10 #1: SEASON 3. Beck at it's peak, a chunk of great Episodes and the best Season plot of all. Also a huge increase in quality. 9/10 Episodes #1: "HUSH" simply brilliant. (honorable mentions: "THE WISH", "AMENDS", "BECOMING 1&2", "FEAR, ITSELF", "RESTLESS", "FOOL FOR LOVE", "THE BODY", "NORMAL AGAIN" & "SAME TIME, SAME PLACE) The LLL Collection just arrived while writing this post.
