Love this composer casting -- totally out of left field, and something that actually makes me interested in this new Bond and Bond score (which I normally don't give a rat's ass about).
Romer has been a huge talent for some time, I was just waiting for his big break. BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD (which he did with his usual companion Benh Zeitlin) was one of my favourite scores in 2012.
I mentioned Romer back in April, but only to say he was the only composer the director had used more than once. I didn't think he'd get his first choice. I imagine some 11th hour Matt Dunkley/Kevin Kaska intervention when it all goes tits up.

It will certainly be interesting to follow. I'll be rooting for Romer all the way, but knowing how the biz works, I wouldn't be surprised either, if changes happen.
Nothing would please me more than a big and brassy score a la Arnold — but it’s the 25 film in the franchise. I won’t begrudge them if they go in an entirely different direction.
Wanted: Somebody under the age of 25 with minimum of 50 years experience who is a world class specialist in absolutely everything and willing to work for bottom dollar.
For the 007 composer, the equivalent:
Wanted: Somebody who will write a note-for-note OHMSS clone which is completely surprising, new and original, and is prepared to get fired from one of the biggest gigs in the movie business by defying producers to please hard score film score fans.
Honestly, I don't know if Dan will sink or swim with his Bond score, but I do know that there is not one composer that can be assigned to this franchise that won't be greeted with, "Oh God, not him."

Hahaha this is so very, very true. No one is allowed the chance to fail anymore or, God forbid, the chance to succeed.
If nothing else I'm happy that EON is willing to go a little left of center to fit Fukunaga's aesthetic.

Oh, there was plenty of bitching about Arnold (around here at least ). I'd been hoping against hope he'd be able to come back to the franchise though, loved all of his Bond scores.
That Far Cry score didn't inspire any confidence in the new guy. But to be honest, I've really given up on Bond as long as Craig is around. Casino Royale was pretty good but since then it's been either blah or awful ( QOS ) .
As always, time will tell. Too early to really know anything.
