Any one hearing “ Last of the Mohicans”

I'd say the two scores are distinctly different - Jones and Edelman went for a more traditional epic sound and deployed exotic percussion more sparingly. If I had to choose another score that reminds me of the textures and percussion Schachner uses in PREY it would be Joris de Man and The Flight's music for HORIZON ZERO DAWN or perhaps her own score for ASSASSIN'S CREED: ORIGINS.

Any one hearing “ Last of the Mohicans” I definitely heard echoes of 'Mohicans' both in terms of the mood and the instrumentation. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find out that 'Mohicans' was used as the temp track.

Maybe my ears are just tired. Which MOHICANS tracks sound similar to you?

As I said - it's just the orchestration and the mood - nothing specific. Her melodies veer away slightly from any similarity to 'Mohicans'. However, during her main theme (the big recurring romantic one), I half expected the rhythmic element from 'The Kiss' to kick in - but it didn't. I love the scores to both films. Any similarity between 'Prey' and 'Mohicans' was, in fact, welcome. (If I wanted to 'scour the scores', I could probably make a case for the use of percussion as well. A lot of running through the woods with drums - akin to 'Mohicans' opening deer hunt). Someday I'll ask her if the temp was 'Mohicans'. Wouldn't be the first time a composer felt locked in to a certain approach due to the temp. Beyond that, it could just be pure 'homage', in which case as I said, 'welcome!'

I think they're talking about the one or two times the score almost had a theme. The composer herself said that she was influenced by Mohicans. It just sounds like the same coloring as the Trevor Jones Mohicans music.

I got that same vibe. This was a low-budget film so I assume the music budget was also pretty minimal. I did see an orchestrator and orchestra in the credits mind you. I like the sound she achieved. A Silvestri-styled score wouldn't have worked for this film. However, like others here, I was hoping for a couple of signature themes or motives to grab onto. But she did very well all things considered.

'Almost had a theme' - that sums it up perfectly. Just when you think it's going to plagiarize 'Mohicans' - it doesn't.

I was thrilled to see this home video release because, no joke, last week I had searched Amazon hoping something had been made (I don't have Hulu anymore and wanted to show my wife the movie). I kinda feel like I wished it into an existence. razz

Count me as another excited fan looking forward to a physical disc release of this movie! I'll be eager to check out the audio commentary too.
