Anyone seen the new trailer? Now this is the X-Men movie I have wished for! It looks truly epic, and hopefully Mr. Ottman can follow suit with his score. I'll miss what John Powell and Henry Jackman brought to their excellent scores (and only through their one-of-a-kind voices) but I'll give Ottman the benefit of the doubt.

I just can't get excited for this. I want to. I love the X-Men. But there hasn't been a really good X-Men movie yet, Singer's track record is not so great at this point, this movie looks really overstuffed with about 25 main characters . . . I really hope it turns out to be great but I'm not sold on the trailers so far.

I have enjoyed the trailers and hope the film is suitably epic and turns out to be well-balanced between characters. However, Hollywood generally seems to be better at making trailers than making films. We'll see.

P.S. While I do enjoy well-made X-Men films, my dream would be that something would happen (like terrible reception) that would have 20th Century Fox relinquish film rights back to Marvel. Avengers + X-Men, or Avengers vs. X-Men? Dream come true.

I have greatly enjoyed all the X-MEN films produced so far, though admittedly I never saw the first WOLVERINE movie, only the one released this past Summer. I was never a reader of the comics so I bring no preconceptions about the characters or the universe for what it should or should not be. I think this series succeeds as great and often thoughtful entertainment for general audiences, comic book knowledge should not be required, and I think the producers have kept that in mind. I'm much more interested in this series than in what Marvel is producing, even though their films have also been entertaining, such as IRON MAN and CAPTAIN AMERICA. The difference is I will revisit the X-MEN movies whereas I've never seen a Marvel movie more than once, there just isn't that same interest on my side.

X-Men 2 remains the best of the modern superhero movies IMO, and although I wasn't keen on the score at first, it has really grown on me. The music for the finale at Alkali Lake is stirring stuff indeed!

I really hope Ottman brings back his main theme.

I'm sure he will. Henry Mancini never goes out of style.

I'm thinking of starting a website that features screen grabs of shots from movies where the camera cranes above someone walking over the CIA or FBI logo on the floor.

As I understand it, the film is essentially a sequel to First Class (with Wolverine added to the group)... the older cast are probably just in the first 10-15min of the film.(and potentially the end)

I'm not sure what more could've been done with the first two X-Men movies, they were about as good as they could be, esp with the first one's time and budget constraints.

New trailer looks great, can't wait for the score!

I wonder what the first one was. I remember it being a big deal shot in Patriot Games.

You know, considering days passed is part of the movie, I'd like ot hear Kamen's main theme and action motif, return.

So it is a sequel to X-MEN FIRST CLASS but it picks up after X-MEN: THE LAST STAND and it follows directly after THE WOLVERINE...

Oh and it is written by the guy who wrote Mr. and Mrs. Smith [you know, the film with no ending that just STOPS] and XXX: State of the Union and because he is Akiva Goldsmith's protege he is also now a major Hollywood producer.

He also wrote the HORRIBLE film THIS IS WAR.

I can't at all get my hopes up for this film. I liked the first two but didn't like how rushed The Last Stand was and over all it didn't work for me. Disliked Wolverine Origin and I liked First Class while good, The Wolverine's final act was a let down.

The X-Men franchise has only had one true epic action film and that was X2 and no one from the writing team on that returns.

If it gets reviews as good as FIRST CLASS I may end up watching but I doubt it.

I thought First Class was easily the worst of the X Men movies.I wouldnt be interested in seeing this new film if it were not for the original team returning.I just hope someone told Fassbender this time that Magneto is not supposed to have an irish accent!

As for the music, it was inevitable that Singer would use Ottman because he seemingly does not like to work with any other composers.Apart from the main theme, the X2 score was not up to much.Hope Ottman at least dials back his overeliance on choir.

I actually find FIRST CLASS to be one of the best of the X-MEN films, I love it. And I love Fassbender's performance as Magneto, I couldn't care less about the Irish accent, he owns almost the entire movie. Complaining about his accent in FIRST CLASS is like complaining about Sean Connery's Scottish accent in every role he ever played. It didn't matter, his great performances were what sold each role.

Actually, it's not the same. He's playing a character that was born German, not Irish. It's only different if Connery is playing a Canadian but has a Scottish accent; or if he plays an Irish character with a Scottish accent, and etc., so unless the decent of the character Connery plays is established and he still goes for the Scottish accent, it can be Scottish.

Now, according to information online, Fassbender is German-Irish. Could it really be that hard for him, as an actor, to drop the Irish for Magneto?

That's not exactly fair because Fassbender and Vangh have both gone on record about Magneto's accent being off during the finale where it goes into about three different things.

I agree Fassbender owned it and thus I saw past it but it is pretty obvious though and far from a nit pick.

It's similar to Anthony Hopkins playing a Spaniard in THE MASK OF ZORRO; woefully miscast but the hell with it, he was game and had fun and I enjoyed it.

And Connery still sounds Scottish when playing the Russian character Ramius in HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. I still don't think it's a big deal, especially since McKellen didn't adopt any special accent when he played Magneto or even hide his British accent.

I'm sure they will... Right after they tell Ian Mckellen that Magento isn't supposed to have a British accent. Neither is Professor Xavier for that matter. Not to mention that Wolverine should have a Canadian accent...and be quite short.

Just sayin'.

But you do in fact HEAR it and while no one said it was a big deal, I do understand where people are coming from with the valid complaint.

For example, I personally hate how FLAT a lot of the CDs from Michael Giacchinno sound but I still buy them and make the best out of them but at no point will I not let it be known at my disappointment especially when the bluray for JOHN CARTER has the score sounding so rich and warm.

Besides, people will connect or disconnect with a movie or actor or whatever for any and all reasons like my boyfriend who no matter what film has Morgan Freeman, he is always taken out of the film because he feels he's just playing himself regardless or the same beats every time.

As for John Ottman... I don't exactly have high hopes for this film. I'm going to revist my copies of Superman Returns and X2 from LALA LAND but I don't ever think them to be on par with say THE INCREDIBLE HULK in terms of Superhero scores.
