Has interest in film score music reached a peak and is tailing off? I don't really know. I was amazed to find FSM existed at all, back half a decade when I first experienced what it meant to be 'online.'
The way I see it is something like this. Although the type of film music that I hooked into goes back some, there are always contemporary end users appearing on the scene. As the world population is going up there must always be new entrants to the genre. Having said that, there are pitifully few of us amongst the 7 billion+ human inhabitants of this planet, and in my time the entire human population presence has doubled - there's something to think about. However, as movie entertainment, on the whole, is sucked up by people like there's no tomorrow, it is the same question as the one about ET being out there. They must be, even if they are invisible.
On a recent Jeopardy, one of the contestants said he's a big fan of film music, especially music from the '30s-'60s, with his favorite score being Miklós Rózsa's Ben-Hur.
Since this thread reminds us of the fact that life is short and precious, let's take the opportunity to post thoughts or questions that we wouldn't otherwise post.
Did I miss the memo or something? Apart from the fact that everything eventually ends (including yours truly) I have seen nor heard of any mention that this website is folding. So is this just paranoia or based on information that Lukas put out there?
I think it was a reference to all the times in recent years where the board has moved slowly or lost all connection (see off-topic board). I have this gnawing feeling that the board is more of a hassle than a pleasure for Lukas (due to financial commitment), but I'll let him comment on that. I don't think the board is in imminent danger of closing, no.
I know I can't be the only person to have felt an old facial tic return reading posts by and about DANIEL2.
I know what you mean. It's like when someone says "Candyman" and you twitch because he might return when you say his name three times.
In retrospect, these threads make it look like a hoard of gruff looking bikers crash into some small town diner... you just don't know if there's going to be trouble or if they just want to take a rest... Everybody just tries to keep their cool so nobody gets hurt.
I'd go “…wherever outlaws rule the West, wherever innocent women and children are afraid to walk the streets, wherever a man cannot live in simple dignity, wherever a people cry out for justice!”
Howard, those topics from moviemusic certainly brought back a lot of memories. I liked that board but I tended to post more at FSM when this board was fixed. PeterK was great as were the other posters. I did get a kick out of some of the posters who thought the influx of FSMers would invite a plague of leprosy. Most of us behaved ourselves, but a few bad apples did arrive.
"...a plague of leprosy." LOL! The last thread was pure wiseguy but then got deep. Man.
The FSMessageboard did blip out again in 2008. A minor blip compared to Y2K but a trip into the Twilight Zone no less. It kicked us all out--except for me. Go figure. So I had...uh...sort've a field day...kid alone in the candy shop & all

Ain't that the truth. You read my mind. AGAIN. Oh and were you around in the "Latham Conger III" days?
"Leprosy." "Infestation." And now this: In retrospect, these threads make it look like a hoard of gruff looking bikers crash into some small town diner... you just don't know if there's going to be trouble or if they just want to take a rest... Everybody just tries to keep their cool so nobody gets hurt.

Ah, yes, Latham Conger III... Those were the old FSM Message Board Days. Back then, if I remember correctly, you could even just post on the board without registration? And there was an almost eternal thread about 1776 which eventually only sporadically had anything to do with the actual musical. Ah, a walk down memory lane. :-D

Latham Conger III. Of course I remember him. He must be thrilled he's gained so much notoriety as the FSM's board first "bad boy". But at least he was a Williams fan! Also, the insults he hurled out seemed rather tongue-in-cheek, as opposed to another individual in this forum. With Latham, it was almost an "honour" to be the target of his ire!

Yup. And there was some definite sock-puppeteering going on there from time to time. There were amusing moments when you would see a thread that looked like:
Ha, I had forgotten that routine. But yes, he was more of a devil's advocate vs. snake or skunk. His big thing was to declare a respondent's "license to criticize films" revoked if he thought your opinions were seriously lacking.
