I just read my email and had to see what discussion this generated here. Like DMD, I'm freaking excited! I can't wait to get that "Thanks for believing in this project and waiting a few months more" bonus CD! I don't even want to know what the content is. I want it to be a surprise. It's cool that they are able to do another issue beyond the original 1,000 but I'm glad that I didn't miss out on the limited edition.

Well this is certainly a cannonball to the stomach for me. I have wanted so badly to pre-order this thing but wasn't sure if my finances would hold out. Now I find out there there will be Danny's signature. This really sucks. I wonder if there will be a waiting list in case anyone cancels their orders.

Yeah, I'm more than a little pissed about this. If I had known about exclusive content (or even had an inkling that there would be a second run, implying something would be special about the initial limited edition), I would have ordered off the site instead of Amazon to be sure. Oh well. Maybe some generous soul will be enchanted by the holiday spirit of lossless files.

They're right in wanting to do something special for the limited edition box, and although asking the same price for the regular one is a bit... odd, that's not too bad either. But:

WHY NOT TELL US about the extra bonus disc and the signature?

People who have this on order at Amazon (as well as people who were waiting a bit to scrape the money together) missed out on this because of that. There was no reason whatsoever to hold back this information.

I am NOT involved in the making of this box set, but just speculation...I'm thinking this bonus disc was kind of a back up plan JUST IN CASE, the box is delayed a bit. Maybe they had enough extra goodies for another CD and thought, hey let's have this back up CD JUST IN CASE, the box is delayed. Just a CD to send out with a great signature to say, hey man sorry it's going to be a little longer, please except this gift as a nice thank you for waiting so patiently. I don't see ANYTHING wrong with that.

Richard is an avid soundtrack fan and he knows this board, so he knows FOR A FACT, that if this huge box set was going to be delayed for any reason, that the fans would go nuts and there would be hell to pay, I think this extra CD was a good way to keep us at bay, if you get my idea!!

The problem is that EVERYONE has to wait the additonal 2 month - whether he bought it through the WB Store, Amazon or somewhere else. But ONLY the first 1000 WB Store customers are getting this special disc as a compensation for the waiting time.

"But ONLY the first 1000 WB Store customers are getting this special disc as a compensation for the waiting time."

And that's because those of us who purchased this thing from Warner Bros. direct have to pay more, plus a whole lot for shipping, too. You see, there are soundtrack gods.

yeah, i ordered via Amazon and got screwed by this. they should make this right for all who pre-ordered.

Only if you ordered through Amazon. But if you order now the regular edition through the Warner Brother Store you pay the same $499 plus the high shipping costs. So you pay exact the same price/shipping but you won't get the bonus disc.

Seeing as Kraft is behind the Harry Potter deluxe release, you could speculate the same manufacturing company is involved and they have to meet film's release date and push out this Box ?....

I have to say I hope these deluxe versions are not a new trend for releases, music is the key... not the fluff.

I get that they want to give something extra to those that bought the first 1000 copies - but surely Danny Elfman's signature is more than enough.

So I would like to direct my plea to Mr Kraft (in the offchance he reads this):
Please make the bonus disc available in the regular edition, too!

There's no need for so many people to miss out on this additional music because they just ordered it from a different store. (I'll stress this again: people ordering from Amazon thought they were buying the limited edition, too. Nobody told anybody until it was too late.)

Here's the problem - when this thing went up at amazon the second pressing had not been announced and therefore everyone who has preordered this up until, when, a couple of days ago, should get the bonus CD because amazon was selling the limited edition not the new one. There is no way around this, I'm afraid and the right thing needs to be done. In order to sell out the limited edition they made copies available to e-tailers. Now they're sold out and saying that only pre-orders through the WB Shop get the extra disc. How many pre-orders WERE there through the WB Shop, because there most certainly were not 1000 pre-orders or they could not possibly have made it available to other e-tailers. You see the problem here - so they are not making 1000 of the new CD because why should they when they don't have that many pre-orders?

I love you large, Mr. Kraft, but this needs to be included with ALL the amazon pre-orders that were made before the announcement of a) the delay, and b) the second pressing. Taschen would not do this on a book, whether it was bought at Taschen or elsewhere. And their second printings of certain things are never identical to the first.

I do not think it is a bad thing at all because afterall, had I pre-ordered it I wouldnt be complaining. But I do think that ALL the limited edition pre-orders should come with the extra signed disc. Perhaps the reason the WB shop versions are signed is because there were far fewer preordered on there hence there won't be a thousand pressings or signatures to worry about.

Poor mr ELFMAN, 1000 signed 17th cd, a MERRY XMAS indeed.

Given the fact that you have to pay in full for the set and it's now sold out, I think they're compensating Mr. Elfman pretty well for his time in signing the discs.

But again I ask. Why can't he just sign the certificate of authenticity? I can frame that! I don't want to frame a disc holder. frown

Personally this has been one of the worst handled productions for a score set in a while. I mean as far as details go. Things weren't really clear from the beginning.

Going to be worth it, though. I'm dying for expanded Pee Wee, Beetlejuice, Batman Returns (I know, I know, the big one is coming), Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare, Sleepy Hollow, and Big Fish. Heck, even the lesser Burton movies have scores that are well worth revisiting - Charlie, Apes, Alice. The scores are gorgeous.

How do you know there wasn't a second pressing R/Etailers were autorized to wholesale? You are making assumptions and being a malcontent, you're arguing that just because some decided to order from Amazon and elsewhere they deserve it.

I recall Taschen's The Stanley Kubrick Archives, The first printing included a strip of 70mm print of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

When I bought the set from Amazon, I could have sworn that it said limited edition. Did anyone else see this? Now there site lists the 25th, and so does my pending order.

If anyone printed up there invoice that says that it was limited? Then those that got screwed may have an chance.

And has anyone emailed Warner?

EDIT:
actually, no, the invoice says only "Danny Elfman & Tim Burton 25th anniversary music box". I think it might have been advertised as a Limited Collector's Edition back then though. I'm not sure though, and it's what's on the invoice that counts of course.
