The score samples don't do anything for me.

I'd always thought the trailer is awful. It basically yells LOOK! I'M IMPORTANT, DARK AND EDGY!! making the film look like pretentious Oscar bait. And with the director being a smug douche ( his recent comment about being able to "make a real movie under the guise of a comic movie" - yeah. He needs a punch in the throat big grin

But, his main claim to fame is "The Hangover Trilogy" , so, it doesn't really promise much.

Don't worry, more goofy fun (read: unintentional comedy) is coming from Marvel. The title Thor: Love and Thunder is a neon warning sign that the recipe for silly is being refined.

I don't get this kind of thinking. So a director is not allow to make a dark and edgy comic book film? How is that more pretentious than a actual dramatic Oscar film?

WB/DC's upcoming Birds Of Prey is already a contender.

Oh, I'd love that. I hate superhero stuff, so I'm all for doing more 'artsy' interpretations like this. For example, the TV series LEGION is one of my favourite things to come out of the superhero craze, and that's totally out there, David Lynch-style.

I'm right there with you, Thor. Legion is brilliant (though I haven't seen the last season yet).

Legion was great. The last season is also very good and ends on a satisfying note. it has the usual striking visuals, mad plot directions, and some nice music. But it hangs together really well. I just enjoyed its style very much. I think you'll like it DW.

Since I just finished with Chernobyl, which I found pretty consistently riveting, save for some repetitious bits in trying to stretch to five-plus hours, and some ham-fisted expository dialogue, this was really excellent, with terrific performances. In fact, the ONLY thing I found completely off-putting and dreadful was - wait for it - the score by this person, not that anyone with a thinking brain would call the noises that emanate with some regularity music - it's literally just noise, part of the sound design. This is what is now called ambient minimalism, as if that's a THING? I call it ambient crap is what I call it. There is nothing, other than a rather large amount of money, that could make me sit through anything with Joaquin Phoenix and I am sure I would find the meanderings of a score within it equally tiresome, not that I'll be listening to it, unless someone posts a link here to something they find really swell in this score. Do it.

It's an okay film that will be elevated to Shakespearean proportions by the legion of superhero-strokers who already revere THE DARK KNIGHT as some latter-day CITIZEN KANE (which JOKER currently sits above on the IMDB Top 250 -- and I suspect it will stay that way). Uniformly well-crafted except in the screenplay, which is typically lazy and riddled with false notes. Joaquin is earnest as usual but lacks the photogenic charisma of others who've played cinematic nutcases (e.g. DeNiro or Nicholson). The ambient minimalism of the score is effective for the most part without being remotely memorable.

Post-Zimmer post-Johansson post-Julyan post-Price post-Mansell (but also a bit post-Rosenman imho) soundtrack.

What I appreciate more is its brevity.

From the first minute, the listener is shocked by deliberate dissonance, by a confused stream of sound. Snatches of melody, the beginnings of a musical phrase, are drowned, appear again, and disappear in a grinding and squealing roar. To follow this “music” is difficult; to remember it, impossible.

I take it then you would be unable to provide a chronological track list derived from the current album?

I'm sure Hildur is a credible composer. However, I would have prefered Pinar Toprak who "shattered glass ceilings" by being the first woman to score a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie for Captain Marvel. Hildur's Joker score sounds too much influenced by Jóhann Jóhannsson's style whom I love his work BUT an iconic character like Joker needed better memorable themes.

I want to see TALL Guy spell her last name
.
If he does, I'll go see the film.

I’m sad that you’re denying yourself the chance to decide for yourself. But it’s your choice; by all means be put off seeing it by the opinion of someone that hasn’t over someone that has big grin

It's not a film that requires 'memorable themes'. It's far more visceral, a depiction of a troubled mind and the turmoil within, which Hildur displays wonderfully in her score.

Now, I'm conflicted!

Lol!

Is this based on the GOTHAM tv show or a graphic novel?
