LOVE Duning, Fielding, and Schifrin...and I'm a fan of Jeff Alexander as well. I'd probably really dig a release of these scores!

Thanks as always for doing these.

    You're welcome.

The composer roster made this a no-brainer choice to do.

    By: Richard Hazard

    Finishing SEASON 2:

As usual, if I don't mention an episode, that means there was no credited composer.

    "The Need of a Friend"
    By: Richard Markowitz
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BEmXKktvdo

    Highlights:
  • 17:57 in. The source music, followed by score.
  • 39:56 in.

I probably wouldn't release everything cited above, like 12:43.

    "A View of Nowhere"
    By: Richard Shores
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XmtpCljnQs

This is Shores' only effort for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 21:14 in.
  • 30:15/33:00 in.
  • 46:54 in.

Guest-starring Dana Elcar. Yup, he's in a position of authority again. Can't say I'm complaining. It's like he was born to do that in acting.

    "Deathrun"
    By: Jeff Alexander
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npHiXcR9iN4

This is Alexander's final effort for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 6:34 in.
  • 11:24 in. Sound is kind of crummy, but like the addition of what sounds like a wooden xylophone.
  • 39:53/40:56 in.

    "End Game"
    By: Richard Markowitz
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsmsQy0wfdc

  • 29:00 in. And after the commercial break.
  • 41:44 in.
  • 46:01 in.

    Moving on to season three.
EDIT: No further seasons are up. Sorry!

Skimming it for score, I was bored!

Translation: Joe Mannix didn't get punched, shot, blinded, concussed, blown up, stranded in the desert, imprisoned, held hostage, or stalked by the every-other-season-vengeance-seeking psychopath from his Korean War platoon for Justin "Child of the '80s" Boggan's liking.

EDIT: No further seasons are up. Sorry!

I don't agree with your general statement of the season 2 scores.
"Fear I to Fall" by Lalo Schifrin is stock music.

"The Silent Cry" by Lalo Schifrin, "Pressure Point" by Jerry Fielding, "Edge of the Knife" by George Duning, "Night Out of Time" by Robert Drasnin, "A View of Nowhere" by Richard Shores, "End Game" by Richard Markowitz are fabulous scores.

Besides, you tend to disregard many composers from the old days: see your comments on Gunsmoke.

My "Gunsmoke" thread precisely disagrees with you; did you only read some pages?

Also, my "Markham", "Rawhide", and "Barnaby Jones" threads disagree with you. Just 'casue we may not agree on certain episode scores, doesn't mean your claim is correct.

    ADDITIONAL/UNCREDITED/STOCK MUSIC COMPOSERS:

Culled from ASCAP and BMI. In no special order.

  • Walter Schraf.
  • Ralph Ferrero.
  • Patrick Williams. (also listed with Schifrin; he probably did some original scoring for an episode, utilizing the theme, and either didn't get credit, or the credit is missing from IMDb)
  • Patricia Williams.
  • John Jennings.
  • Sherman Crothers.
  • Malcoln Beelby.
  • James O'Keefe.
  • Leith Stevens.
  • Mark Bucci.
  • William J. Davidson.
  • Kenyon Hopkins.
  • Thomas McIntosh.

I appreciate your efforts in many of these threads (really), but you should also encourage discussion in them, as well. Autistic regurgitations of cue timings can only provide so much interest.

Complete series DVD on sale for $59.99...that averages out to about $7.50 a season. The show plays things "straight", yet often ventures into "so fucking crazy as to be surreal" territory--and all done with a straight face. The first season is my favorite. Many an episode features Mannix cracking wise like Mike Hammer with a "coffin nail" bouncing in his yap while a hair's width from punching some villain in the face. Joe became quite the warm, caring fellow in subsequent seasons, but God help you if you tried to kill him; then he'd take on a case for free, whether you liked it or not.

Joe Mannix is a revered figure in the P.I. genre, though here in sci-fi worship land, I can understand how opinions may differ. wink

The thread is there to start the discussion; people can go ahead.

Or they can be silent, wait until all the links are dead, and talk about the latest Junk score.

A score release of the series would be welcome. I have the Schifrin Mannix CD of the LP release, which gets a lot of play from me.

    SEASON 5:

    Only one episode found.

"Dark So Early, Dark So Long" (5.1)
    By: Laurence Rosenthal
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nshAS1IqfF0

This is the final effort by Rosenthal for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 11:43 in.
  • 16:39 in.
  • 29:56 in.
  • 44:33 in.*
  • 47:23 in.*

    * = If I were compiling a set of season five scoring, I'd only take these two cues for sure.

    SEASON 3:

This is presumably all scored episodes of season three. I went by IMDb, which appears to have been complete (based on other credit submissions for episodes). I checked some to be sure, but not all. If I missed one, feel free to let me know and I'll cover it later.

    "Eagles Sometimes Can't Fly"
    By: Richard Hazard
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUynbsU3G6w

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • About 2:50 in.
  • 9:38 in.
  • 12:01 in.
  • About 17:20 in.
  • About 21:30 in. And the cue after the commercial break.
  • 27:04 in. The bar source music.
  • 30:53 in.
  • 37:14 in.
  • 38:45 in.
  • About 42:50 in. Gives me "Batman"-esques vibes. I would have taken Hazard over May on "Batman" any day. Goes on for about eight minutes. Might have to cut this cue for a season three set of scoring to make room for other cues.

That's the majority of the episode score. I skipped half a dozen or so cues.

    "Color Her Missing"
    By: Robert Drasnin
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LawaNlZApgM

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.

  • 19:13 in. Includes the series' main theme.
  • 25:24 in. Continues after the commercial break.
  • 31:45 in.
  • About 34:00 in. Includes the series' main theme.
  • 45:10 in.
  • 48:42 in.
  • 50:06 in.

That's just over half the episode score that I cited.

    "Return to Summer Grove"
    By: Luchi De Jesus
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMEyu6gJ7Pc

This is the only effort by De Jesus for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 2:19 in.
  • About 4:10 in.
  • 6:15 in.
  • 7:13 in. Some Armenian flavoring.
  • 12:25 in. Some Armenian flavoring.
  • 14:00 in. Some Armenian flavoring.
  • 20:18 in.
  • 26:58 in.
  • 38:49 in.
  • 43:35 in.
  • About 47:15 in.

That's most of the episode score.

If I were compiling a set of season three scoring, I'd probably skip the first two highlights.

    "The Playground"
    By: Fred Steiner
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDAvk8Q0Ia8

This is Steiner's first effort for the series.

    Highlights:
  • About 0:15 in. This is the nearest I can recall of Steiner trying to sound cool.
  • 4:00 in.
  • 10:34 in.
  • 16:15/17:17 in.
  • 21:28 in. I like the way Steiner builds with the staccato brass.

  • 19:49 in.
  • 20:45 in.
  • 22:33 in.
  • 25:30 in.
  • 34:40 in.
  • About 41:30 in.
  • 44:14 in.

"A Penny for the Peep Show"

  • About 15:20 in.
  • 16:44 in.
  • About 19:00 in.
  • About 30:30 in.
  • 37:09 in. Also containing the series' main theme.
  • 38:09 in. 38:58 in it gets cool. Continues after the commercial break, but without the cool.
  • About 46:10 in.

For the guys here: 26:43 in. You're welcome.

    * = Say, that's some good thinking from a baddie: Making sure only one bullet is in the gun before handing it over.

Mannix: "Aren't you glad you're alive to find out."

    "A Sleep in the Deep"
    By: Gerald Fried
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EoZ0eeAW1Y

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in. Now that's how you start off an episode score. Glad Fried is still alive and probably will see this! Maybe I'll make sure and forward the thread to him.
  • 2:05 in.
  • 4:57 in.
  • 11:10 in.
  • 14:28 in.
  • 20:34 in.
  • 24:59 in. Cool outtro cue. Guys: Make sure to stick around after the commercial break for something to look at...
  • 27:14 in.
  • 33:31 in.
  • 36:12 in.
  • 40:02 in. Continues after the commercial break.
  • 41:37 in. 42:06 in it gets cool.
  • 44:00 in.
  • 46:46 in.
  • 48:36 in.

That's all but four cues (and two were restaurant source cues).
    Fantastic effort by Fried!

For the guys here: 6:24 in. You're welcome.

    "Memory: Zero"
    By: Robert Prince
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6vmhTWrUyw

This is the only effort for the series by Price.

    Highlights:
  • 1:52 in.
  • 12:55 in. And the cue after the commercial break.
  • 15:02 in.
  • 16:53 in.
  • 18:56 in.
  • 21:11 in.
  • 24:05 in.
  • About 27:20 in. And the cue after the commercial break.
  • 31:51 in.*
  • 34:14 in.
  • 36:50 in.
  • 43:57 in.
  • 47:22 in.

For the guys here: 15:29 in. You're welcome.
    And 26:10 in.

    * = Good lord Mannix has some hairy hands.

    "The Sound of Darkness"
    By: Jerry Fielding
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh84V3TlosQ

    Highlights:
  • 0:24 in.
  • 2:41 in.
  • 5:10 in.
  • 11:29 in.
  • 14:49 in.
  • 19:27 in.
  • 25:05 in.
  • 26:39 in.
  • 29:06 in. And the cue after the commercial break.
  • 34:17 in.
  • 39:52 in.*
  • 45:10 in.
  • 47:16 in.
  • 48:22 in.

That's nearly every single cue. I only skipped some short intros/outtros, but none were bad. I might as well say the complete score should be released.

Special note to the acting of James Edward.

    * = Mediocre acting and terrible cut-away car exploding stock footage.
All the effort put into the episode prior and they did this?

    "Missing: Sun and Sky"
    By: Richard Markowitz
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upwnNBEK6Xc

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • About 3:30 in.
  • 5:45 in.
  • About 22:20 in.
  • 28:00 in.
  • 36:15 in.
  • 41:46 in.
  • 45:29 in.*
  • 49:28 in. Not so much for the opening, but the nifty last thirty seconds with the series main theme.

Geez what a boring episode. They should have switched around this one and the prior one to end out the season.

    * = Cameraman shadow spotted. Whoopsy.

So nice to be back to doing this and hearing all this fantastic television scoring.

    ”Missing: Sun and Sky"

    Geez what a boring episode.

    Dialogue from the episode:

Suspect: "I got up at 4:30. Did you ever notice Mr. Mannix, that them that gets paid the least gets up the earliest? And then... huh, I had my breakfast, some cold spaghetti and a piece of lemon pie. It's what I had for dinner the night before and I put it in a doggie bag. Oh, and a glass of beer."

Mannix: "At 4:30 in the morning???"

Suspect: "I just love lemon pie.”

    Another scene, same episode:

Joe Mannix gets the tar beaten out of him by a quartet of thugs led by a menacing sadist named Paddy, and comes to in the lava lamp-festooned pad of a trio of spaced-out hippies who'd demanded an incredibly small ransom -- $753 -- for a horse they didn't even steal.

Mannix (groggily): "Why 753 dollars? What kind of ransom is that?"

Hippy Chick: "It's a very beautiful number." She indicates her smiling drug-addled friend. "Lazarus composed it."

I’ll admit it’s not The Colbys-worthy dialogue that you prefer, but what’s not to like?
