Great theme from Frontiere but I haven't seen the series for years. The sort of thing I'd love to make an appearance on CD (especially with the likes of Shorty Rogers, Mark Snow and Richard Hazard as well)...but as usual, so many shows with great music - and only so many specialist labels with finite resources to bring them to disc. Ah well.

SEASON 1:
I don't know how I managed it, but I missed some season one episodes! NO LOADS FOUND. "Ghost of the Ripper" By: Dominic Frontiere "The Eleventh Event" By: Mark Snow "Kill Dan Tanna!" SEASON 2:
"Red Handed" By: Dominic Frontiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZy8uMWw2hQ Highlights: 1:20 in. 7:13 in. 10:34 in. 19:05 in. 25:01 in. 28:00 in. 33:33 in. 38:42 in. 40:30 in. 41:49 in. NO LOADS FOUND. "The Usurper" By: Dominic Frontiere "Mixed Blessings" By: Dominic Frontiere "Runaway" By: Dominic Frontiere "Design for Death" By: Dominic Frontiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPnje5sFS34 (NEW load as of: November 21, 2019) Highlights: 1:24 in. 8:54 in. 19:11 in. 22:25 in. 40:35 in. Jeff Beal is listed as a composer on some episodes on IMDb, some with Frontiere, but he's not credited on this one and I suspect he's not credited on any of the others. I've previusly found him credited on episodes of seires he's not credited on, so somebody -- probably Beal himself -- has been erroneously adding him to stuff when he's probably just an additional music of ghostwriter. NO LOADS FOUND. "Shadow on a Star" By: Dominic Frontiere Additional music by: John Beal "Dan Tanna Is Dead" By: Dominic Frontiere Additional music by: John Beal "Macho Murders" By: Dominic Frontiere "The Day the Gambling Stopped" By: Shorty Rogers "Classic Connection" By: Dominic Frontiere "The Private Eye Connection" By: Dominic Frontiere Additional music by: John Beal "Lost Monday" By: Jeff Beal "Casualty of War" By: Jeff Beal "All Kinds of Love" By: Dominic Frontiere (and Jeff Beal?) "The Man Who Was Twice" By: John Beal??? "Golden Gate Cop Killer: Part 1" By: ????? "Golden Gate Cop Killer: Part 2" By: Artie Kane "Siege of the Desert Inn" By: John Beal??? "Vendetta" By: Artie Kane And that concludes all the episodes of season two I could find. Unfortunately, season three will be the same -- two or three episodes only.

SEASON 3:
NO LOADS FOUND. "Aloha, You're Dead: Part 1" By: Artie Kane "Aloha, You're Dead: Part 2" By: Artie Kane "Black Cat Killer" By: Ben Lanzarone "Sudden Death" By: No composer credited. Sister Bridget: "Rocket?" Mary: "Yeah, it's kind of a nick name." Sister Bridget: "Oh. How nice. Are you a scientist?" Mary, the woman in Dan's bed and Dan exchange glances. NO LOADS FOUND. "Christmas Story" By: Jack Elliott & Allyn Ferguson "The Andreas Addiction" By: Artie Kane "Sourdough Suite" By: No composer credited. "Murder by Mirrors" By: No composer credited. "Backlash" By: Artie Kane "Heist" By: John E. Davis & J.J. Johnson This is presumably Johnson's only effort for the series. "No Way to Treat a Victim" By: Duane Tatro "Time Bomb" By: Mark Snow "Out of Sight" By: Allyn Ferguson "Set Up" By: Shorty Rogers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAMV7U7cU70 (load slowed down some) Highlights: 1:39 in. 3:36 in. 6:00 in. ADDITIONAL/UNCREDITED/STOCK MUSIC COMPOSERS:
Culled from ASCAP and BMI (since it was spelled with an "s" instead of a dollar symbol, some of these could be from other project by the same name; BMI was kind enough to list Aaron Spelling Productions, making it easy to identify): Nan Schwartz. Peter McIan. Ken Heller. (his name turns up on series Mark Snow has worked on, so I suspect they used to work together and that Heller did additional music for him) Michael Lang. Ralph Kessler. Jeffrey Tyzik. Ronee Blakey. Rocco Moraina. David Carbonara. Patrick Woodland. Greig McRitchie. (listed with Jack Elliott and Allyn Ferguson; also listed alone) John Peter Smalley. William Loose. Carl Brandt. Other Threads I Have Created or Commented in About TV Scores:

I would guess 'Rocco Moraina' is meant to be Rocky Moriana, who acted as music supervisor for Spelling-Goldberg on stuff like Starsky and Hutch and SWAT.
|
|
|
|
|
Yeah, should be. While listed as a music supervisor on many series, he's also often found for "cue" on ASCAP and/or BMI. I can only speak for myself, but I know I'd pick up sets of the show (finances permitting). Good stuff.

Continuing SEASON 1:
Another episode popped up today. "Mother Mishkin" By: Dominic Frontiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dNt8CuzgHM Highlights: 1:21 in. 4:12 in. 8:30 in. 21:35 in. 35:04 in. 36:30 in. 45:06 in. And after the commercial break.

Continuing SEASON 1:
Doubling back to episodes that were not up at the time. "Yes, My Darling Daughter" By: Shorty Rogers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-h75kE3fKE Highlights: 1:27 in. 27:38 in. 39:30 in. "Lady Ice" By: Richard Hazard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxo8NH0WS3U This is Hazard's only effort for the series. Highlights: 1:21 in. 18:46 in. Opening with a minute of piano work. 31:58 in. I think, just a guess, the cue was cut early in the episode and we didn't hear the whole thing.

Continuing SEASON 1:
"Milliken's Stash" By: Shorty Rogers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yc8qexj56yU Highlights: 1:27 in. 7:31 in. 17:04 in. Joining a cue already in progress. 22:55 in. 24:34 in. Joining a cue already in progress (skipping the cheesy synth stuff). 30:20 in. 32:05 in. 34:03 in. About 39:35 in. there are a number of similarities to cues from one of the "CHiPs" volumes. From interviews I've read over the year, I've gotten an indication that while some stuff was written, others things (a cue or part of a cue) were entrusted by the composer to the talented musicians working to ad lib, so I suspect the similarities are some ad libbing. There were also a couple other episodes with brief similarities (that I didn't note).

Continuing SEASON 1:
"Second Stanza" By: Shorty Rogers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMth9t1x6Yw Highlights: 15:20 in. 34:52 in. Guest-starring musician Doc Severinsen as himself. I don't see any film score sessions or composer credits on his IMDb, but I thought I'd bring it up anyway. "Serve, Volley and Kill" By: Dominic Frontiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUsyWyYI3vo Highlights: 1:25 in. 9:42 in. 13:33 in. Well, that was different. 17:27 in. 19:00 in. 25:02 in. 27:17 in. 31:19 in. 41:14 in. Including "CHiPs"-like car chase music briefly.

"Ghost of the Ripper" By: Dominic Frontiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfsFVAaba-Q Highlights: 1:27 in. 4:21 in. 18:36 in. Including some synth work. 28:06 in. 43:36 in. George Takei briefly guest stars. "The Eleventh Event" By: Mark Snow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpnIC-nyWLo Highlights: 1:25 in. 12:22 in. 15:40 in. Joining a cue already in progress. 16:40 in. 22:04 in. The disco source music. 29:22 in. Cool. Short but cool. 34:12 in. 37:13 in. 40:19 in. Joining a cue already in progress. 43:25 in. And after the commercial break. 17:06 in: I wonder if any of those musicians are sessions players on the episode score. I've read that supposed Snow is not fond of his early TV scoring work. Can't imagine why!

Continuing SEASON 1:
"Kill Dan Tanna!" By: Dominic Frontiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he4D5N4EVJo Highlights: 7:34 in. 9:02 in. 14:04 in. 25:26 in. 33:23 in. Joining a cue already in progress (for some brief nice string work). 37:00/37:45 in. 40:27 in. Begins with something akin to the final confrontation music from the unreleased score to the film "Defiance", then gets a jazz combo with a light disco touch, followed by some tension via strings. 44:00 in. "Death Mountain" By: Shorty Rogers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Br_EthQR6Hs Highlights: 1:25 in. String, light brass, and a tamborine with a kind of light breezy opening cue, which is unusual for the series. The tamborine drops out and strings lead. Around the end does some Indian music; there's a brief seconds of silence and then some more Indian music. 5:49 in. 16:01 in. 17:52 in. 32:08 in. Joining a cue already in progress. 41:07 in. 43:17 in. Guest-starring Ken Kurtis (briefly). "Best Friends" By: Dominic Frontiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvEFYN4nRsM Highlights: 5:52 in. 24:22 in. And after the commercial break. 28:21 in. Joining a cue already in progress. And the crossfaded stage show music. OF course, NOT crossfaded on a CD release! 36:08 in. 39:12 in. 44:35 in. 47:02 in. Short but I like it. Old friend shows up to cause trouble cliché. "Demand and Supply" By: Dominic Frontiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxmcxYd7mJc Highlights: 1:27 in. 7:28 in. Joining a cue already in progress. 19:48 in. 28:27 in. The disco source music. And the cue that immediately follows. 41:43/43:48 in. 45:22 in. It's hard to listen fewer cues with this series!

Continuing SEASON 2:
"The Usurper" By: Dominic Frontiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkhCP-WHJCs Highlights: 1:27 in. (NL: 2:00) 26:54 in. "Mixed Blessings" By: Dominic Frontiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayt7igAiR5A (time stamps might not line up with new load) Highlights: 1:27 in. 4:08 in. 33:13 in. Joining a cue already in progress. That's all the additional episodes that have been put us thus far. I'll probably have to wait another week for enough to do another update.

Continuing SEASON 2:
"Shadow on a Star" By: Dominic Frontiere Additional music by: John Beal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_M9Bc47kggA Highlights: 1:27 in. (NL: 2:00) 3:10 in. The hotel source music. (NL: 3:44) 26:50 in. Joining a cue already in progress. (NL: 27:23) 31:40 in. (NL: 32:07) 34:49 in. Joining a cue already in progress. (NL: 35:23) 41:47 in. The volume is dialed down, but the cue continues, then it goes back up for the (NL: 42:00) "Dan Tanna is Dead" By: Dominic Frontiere Additional music by: John Beal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4E6OgrNjJ4 Highlights: 28:35 in. (NL: 29:09) 33:50 in. (NL: 34:00) 37:28 in. (NL: 38:00) "Classic Connection" By: Dominic Frontiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpQllwReWJY Highlights: 1:27 in. (New link: 2:00) 40:43 in. Goes on for seven minutes. (NL: 41:16) "The Private Eye Connection" By: Dominic Frontiere Additional music by: John Beal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEOZeK7U1Co Highlights: 1:27 in. (New link: 2:00) 43:13 in. (NL: 43:46) For the guys here: 46:50 in. You're welcome. "Lost Monday" By: Jeff Beal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdbsUWSS-Io This is Beals' first solo effort for the series. Highlights: 10:25 in. 36:45 in. 40:58 in. If I were compiling a set of season two scoring, I'd probably skip most or all of this to make room for other scoring. "Casualty of War" By: Jeff Beal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUAJMiOf5C4 (possibly the correct episode; not taking th time to check) Highlights: 1:27 in. If I were compiling a set of seaso ntwo scoring, I'd skip this episode. Beal just doesn't have the edge and fun of Frontiere in his music.

Continuing SEASON 2:
"The Lido Girls" By: John Beal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwQte29SwL0 Highlights: 1:27 in. 33:02 in. 37:35/41:38/43:13 in. For the guys here: 31:40 in. You're welcome. "Consortium" By: John Beal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eboOiyHaQ6E Highlights: 1:27 in. 11:18 in. 16:36 in. 21:08/24:20 in. And the cue after the commercial break. 44:13 in. Overall, this is the best Beal score I have heard yet. It's way more fun, overall, than his other scores (as I complained about earlier), and it's got more edge and funkiness to it. For the guys here: 10:28 in. You're welcome. And 18:18 in. Dan Tanna: "Your next ride will be compliments of the Los Vegas police department." "The Hunter Hunted" By: Dominic Frontiere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mv-vuiNbtg This is Frontiere's final effort for the series. Highlights: 6:12 in. 13:28 in. 23:27 in. 26:02 in. I like the way the cue transitions into dining hall music, while still keeping a beat. 33:48 in. 40:11/42:25 in. I don't know when it happened, but the end credits were re-recorded; it's got more funkiness to it now. Pretty sweet.

Joining a cue already in progress. 48:32 in. Opening with a Rosenman tone pyramid. 54:30 in. 55:35 in. 58:48 in. Joining a cue already in progress for the cool stuff. Also features a solo sax'. 1:01:32/1:02:40 in. 1:10:57 in. 1:14:50 in. Joining a cue already in progress for the cool stuff. 1:26:52 in. 1:29:52 in. 15:41 = Damn -- that fire landed on him and for a split second you could see his hair on fire! Hopefully I'll be able to finish season two in a couple days.
