Guest starring the actor who played Frank McPike on "Wiseguy" (Jonathan Banks).

I'm going to commit William Shatner blasphemy, of Shatphemy, but Jonathan Banks is a superior actor.

That's it. Season one was only five episodes.

I - loved - the early scores of this series. Before they became interchangeable jazz/rock styled, Mark Snow's thematic action material was a lot of fun. The Streets was one of my favorites as well as being a really cool episode.

Seasons 4 and especially 5 went more with a synthy rhythmic sound, and it sounds somewhat influenced by Tangerine Dream/Miami Vice. I found it more effective and fun than the rock-styled stuff.

Having just completed viewing the series, it was interesting how there were decisions made with the show's format that seemed to be abandoned as quickly as the very next episode! And at times there were clear creative choices that were an attempt to emulate the Hill Street Blues documentary visual style, but it really didn't work because it was inconsistent.

Overall, I enjoyed all the music from the show. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a school bus to chase.

    SEASON 2:

I haven't said it in a while, but I think I need to again: If you don't have an ad blocker, it's best before you click on a Dailymotion link to do the following (I don't say this just to keep from seeing their ads, but rather the amount of tracking cookies and ads that play at the same time as videos is so invasive I have no choice but to warn readers) before clicking on a Dailymotion link:

If you are using Internet Explorer, click on the gear wheel and chose Internet options (or hit the Windows button and type "internet options" and click on it).
Click on the Privacy tab, then click on the Advanced button, and under Third-part Cookies chose Prompt. Stay on that tab and click on the Sites button and ad to the blocked list:
    adchoices.net
    adchoices.com

Now click on a Dailymotion link and every window that comes up prompting to store a cookies, click on the box "Apply my decision to all cookies from this website" and then the button "Block Cookie" and keep doing it until you stop getting pop ups (don't block Google though). Go back to Internet Options and disable the prompting (unless you think you can use this safely without blocking cookies that you need on sites like banking websites).

The only thing more boring than an episode about a trucker, is an episode about a trucker and a monkey.

  • 22:00 in.
  • 29:45 in.
  • 38:14 in.

  • 12:07 in.
  • 26:29 in.
  • 33:31 in.

While the score still uses the series' theme, I enjoyed how it was used differently than usual.

    SEASON 3:

    "The Return"
    By: John E. Davis
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2q2vmn

    Highlights:
  • 2:03 in.
  • 7:51 in.
  • 27:21 in.
  • 37:10 in.
  • 39:30 in.

    "Carnal Express"
    By: John E. Davis
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2pqk9i

    Highlights:
  • 26:36 in.

I'm not one of these people who complains about attractive women in skimpy clothing. I am, however, not a fan of what this episode was: apparently nothing more than a ratings grab by putting Heather Locklear in skimpy clothing. I think it's insulting to someone who is one of the main leads. I seriously doubt if Hooker had to burst some ring or what ever by being a Chip & Dales dancer, Shatner would have been so willing. What an awful episode.

For the guys here: 12:06 in. You're welcome.

    "Chinatown"
    By: John E. Davis
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2q2y16

    Highlights:
  • 3:45 in. Joining a cue already in progress.
  • 31:39 in.
  • 34:17 in.
  • 42:12/43:44 in.

    "The Cheerleader Murder"
    By: John E. Davis
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2qap9q

    Highlights:
  • 31:52 in.
  • 41:39 in.

These last few episodes it seems the series scoring has become often a weird combo of "Magnum, pi" theme-inspired guitar riffs and the backing percussion from the "Wiseguy" theme. While still keeping some of the disco elements that worked their way in, in season two.

Hooker's boss laid into him for damaging a car when in pursuit (side damage), yet in episodes where one blew up, and this one where it's run over and crushed by a construction vehicle, he says nothing.

    "The Shadow of Truth"
By: John E. Davis and Jeff Sturges
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2qasue

    Highlights:
  • 16:23 in.
  • 22:01 in.
  • 39:05 in.
  • 41:00 in.

For the guys here: 13:34 in. You're welcome.
    And 33:48 in.

    "Walk a Straight Line"
    By: John E. Davis
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5vmkw3

    Highlights:
  • 12:25 in.
  • 13:07 in. Sounds like a cue from Silvestri's season two work on "CHiPs" (coincidental, or maybe a cue left over from a rejected score?).
  • 30:30 in.

Re-used stock shot with a police car passing by at night with the lights on.

For the guys here: 2:00 in. You're welcome.

    "A Child Is Missing"
    By: Alan Silvestri
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2qll4k

This is Silvestri's only credited score for the series.*

    Highlights:
  • 12:37 in.
  • 20:42 in.
  • 35:00 in.
  • 36:24 in.
  • 41:28 in.

Sad to say, but Mark Snow and John Davis were better composers for the series.

    * = Reportedly, Silvestri has said he had a score rejected for this series; the episode was not named. I'm guessing "The Shadow of Truth", since it has two composers credited and I suspect Davis simply did not have enough time to complete the last-minute score by himself.

    "The Trial"
    By: John E. Davis
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5vmkw5

    Highlights:
  • 29:40 in. The first "Miami Vice" vibe I've gotten, with synth bounce in the background.
  • 33:58 in.

If I were assembling a set of scoring, I'd skip this episode. Maybe I should star mentioning that in my threads.

For the guys here: 1:40 in. You're welcome.

    "Matter of Passion"
    By: John E. Davis
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5vmkw6

    Highlights:
  • 1:27 in.*
  • 3:37 in.
  • 6:37 in.
  • 17:40 in.
  • 23:20 in.
  • 37:56 in.
  • 40:26 in.

Re-used stock shot of that police car again. It's starting to become the headquarters shot from the 1966 "Batman".

Not only are they re-eating the same bomb interfering with the radio bit from a prior episode, they even re-used shots from that episode (including the explosion)! What lazy shit.

    * = Dogs and their keen sense of smell would never smell a body that close by!

Hooker: "Don't worry, he missed with the others, didn't he?"

    Highlights:
  • 2:38 in.
  • 15:13/17:26 in.
  • 21:48 in. I like this kind of laid back source music.
  • About 27:00 in.
  • 27:58 in.
  • 40:06 in.

    "Undercover Affair"
    By: John E. Davis

    "The Lipstick Killer"
    By: John E. Davis
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2raqhl

    Highlights:
  • 26:38 in.

If I were compiling a set of scoring for the show, I'd probably skip that one cue altogether.

You blow the illusion of a woman showering naked when you don't properly crop the footage to remove the obvious bra-like covering.

    "The Snow Game"
    By: Frank Denson
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5vmkwe

This is Denson's first effort for the series.

Man these last few scores have gotten really cheap sounding.

    "Death on the Line"
    By: Frank Denson
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2plnjc

    Highlights:
  • 40:24 in.

If I were compiling a set of scoring from the show, that's the only cue I'd take from this episode.

    "Death Strip"
    By: John E. Davis
    https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5vmzdd

    Highlights:
  • 15:54 in.
  • 39:58 in.*

If I were compiling a site of the scoring, I honestly don't think I'd include either of these cues.

Okay, it wasn't The Shat, but his partner was dancing on stage for women in a Chip & Dales like place.

    * = Damn, that was one bold move for the series. Or any series. What happens when ever some bad guys holds somebody hostage, some talking, maybe a surprised from behind to get to them to let go of the hostage, maybe the hostage bites them or stomps on a foot, but Hooker ignores the guy and shoots him. Damn.

    "Psychic Terror"
    By: Frank Denson

    Highlights:
  • 26:00 in.
  • 31:45 in.
  • 39:00/42:18 in.

If I were compiling a site of the scoring, I'd probably just take the first highlight only.
