Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.^
  • 2:54 in.
  • 3:42 in.^
  • 11:47 in. There is a two or three second lull and the cue continues. Nearing four minutes long. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 20:53 in.^
  • 22:38 in.^
  • 25:42 in.^
  • 28:06 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 30:59 in. The cool source music. Wish I could find a blonde that enjoyed listening to that.^
  • 33:50 in.^(open/close)
  • 36:02 in.^
  • 42:14 in.^
  • 50:25 in. The special end credits music.^

    (NtM: 42:06)

    "The Fingers of Fear"

  • 3:25 in.^
  • 6:48 in.^
  • 11:42 in.^

  • 14:45 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)

  • 37:51 in.^
  • 40:22 in.^
  • 44:42 in.^
  • 48:15 in.^
  • 50:10 in. The special end credits music.^

I'd say amongst the series' best scores. I cited probably nearly every single cue.

    "Well of Doom"
    By: Jerry Goldsmith
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rspfshrFZRs

    Highlights:
  • 1:20 in.^
  • 3:25 in.
  • 4:17 in.^
  • 10:08 in.^
  • 12:10 in. Jerry would later go on to use those growling brass clusters in the mini series "Contract on Cherry street".^(13:22)
  • 15:25 in.^
  • 17:18 in.^
  • 25:24 in.^
  • 29:10 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 33:47 in.^
  • 38:31 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 46:37 in.^
  • 50:05 in. The special end credits music.^

Not a bad score and certainly amongst the series' best efforts, it's sjust that it's not as spectacular as two or three earlier efforts I gave praise to.

NOTE: This episode score was isolated on DVD with SFX.

NOTE: Three cues were re-recorded for Volume 1 from Tadlow.

    "The Ordeal of Dr. Cordell"
    By: Morton Stevens
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OqP9v_m_jw

  • 28:41 in.^
  • 30:16 in.^
  • 33:10 in.^
  • 39:04 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 47:10 in. And the special end credits music which immediately follows it which reprises the material for when Boris talks during segments.^

Boris: "We've learned a lot in the last hundred years, but how much do you supposed has been forgotten in the passed five thousand?"

Justin, "Contract On Cherry Street" was a television film starring Frank Sinatra.

    Continuing SEASON 2:

    "The Last of the Sommervilles"

  • 13:44 in.^
  • 16:10 in.^
  • 19:17 in.^
  • 27:08 in.^
  • 37:21 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 41:39 in.^
  • 42:41 in.^
  • 46:53 in. And the special end credits music which immediately follows it.^

NOTE: This episode score was isolated on DVD with SFX.

    "Letter to a Lover"
    By: Morton Stevens
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P45YS71IH6g

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in. Ending with a Rosenman tone pyramid.^ (3:36 long)
  • 3:42 in.^
  • 4:31 in.^
  • 7:57 in.^
  • 9:50 in.^
  • 11:45 in.^
  • 22:59 in.^
  • 25:56 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 29:56 in.^

    "A Third For Pinochle"
    By: Morton Stevens
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zhj4euVjV4Q

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.^
  • 1:56 in.
  • 2:53 in. Quirky music with bassoon leading.^
  • 7:55 in.^
  • 10:32 in.^
  • 12:35 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 16:05 in.^
  • 17:44 in.^
  • 19:02 in. With a Rosenman tone pyramid ending.^
  • 22:27 in.^
  • 23:16 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 27:51 in.^
  • 31:33 in.^
  • 41:21 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 42:44 in.^
  • 44:44 in.^
  • 47:21 in.^
  • 48:25 in. And the special end credits music which immediately follows it.^

Stevens once again continues his record of providing fun scores for elderly lawbreakers, providing a delightfully fun score that is surely amongst the best of the series. I think I cited every cue, so I might as well say the complete score should be released.

    "The Closed Cabinet"
    By: Jerry Goldsmith
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3txUeThy3Rw

Note: Yavar says this is a tracked score, despite the "original music" credit. I had already covered it before what he said, so here is what I did. IF anybody knows what episode scores the cues come from, please let me know.

    Highlights:
  • 0:35/2:19 in.^(second cue)
  • 4:53 in.^
  • 6:17 in.
  • 7:40 in.^
  • 14:54 in.^
  • 18:32 in.^
  • 21:34 in.^
  • 25:28 in. Over five minutes long.^
  • 32:32 in. Short outtro cue. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 33:36 in.^
  • 38:00 in. A little over four minutes long.^
  • 47:26 in. And the special end credits music which immediately follows it.^

The overall lack of cohesion just doesn't lend itself to being a top tier effort for the series, so I have to bring it down to a second tier effort.

NOTE: This episode score was isolated on DVD with SFX.

    "Dialogues With Death"
    By: Morton Stevens
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfxEuN4qB3I

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.^
  • 4:01 in.^(open close)
  • 6:24 in.^
  • 11:54 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 16:32 in.^
  • 20:55 in.^(and close: 22:??)
  • 38:45 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 41:23 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^
  • 47:01 in. And the special end credits music which immediately follows it.^

    "The Return of Andrew Bentley"
    By: Morton Stevens
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-iXTnoXCrc

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.
  • 0:51 in.^
  • 5:01 in.^
  • 7:13 in.
  • 8:35 in.^
  • 13:07 in.^
  • 20:44 in.^
  • 25:41 in.^
  • 35:54 in.^
  • 45:16 in.^
  • 46:01 in.^
  • 49:04 in. The special end credits music.^

On a set of season two scoring, I'm not sure how much of this I would include. The weakest score by Stevens so far.

    Continuing SEASON 2:

  • 5:59 in.^
  • 12:42 in.^
  • 15:08 in.^
  • 15:57 in.^
  • 21:34 in.^
  • 24:11 in.^
  • 27:01 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 33:10 in.^
  • 35:46 in.^
  • 41:10 in.^
  • 46:11 in.^
  • 47:24 in. And the special end credits music which immediately follows it.^

Another delightful score to a this time not so elderly technical lawbreaker. Can't saw her crime is strictly on the books...
Stevens just seemed to be inspired by these kids of story molds.

    "Portrait Without a Face"
    By: Morton Stevens
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_7Hm4iWBhE

  • 15:12 in.^
  • 16:02 in.^
  • 17:26 in.^
  • 19:05 in.^
  • 25:57 in.^
  • 27:28 in. Includes two Rosenman tone pyramids.^
  • 30:43 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 33:05 in.^
  • 38:30 in. The jazz source bar music.^
  • 39:44 in.^
  • 42:12 in.^
  • 43:15 in.^
  • 47:51 in. And the special end credits music which immediately follows it.^

  • 33:03 in.^
  • 36:42 in.^
  • 43:07 in.^
  • 46:51 in.^
  • 48:49 in. And the special end credits music which immediately follows it.^

Once again, there is something about quirky lawbreakers that seemed to inspire Stevens.

    Out-of-context quote...
Uncle: "Touch it. Go on -- touch it!"

    "Waxworks"

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.^
  • 2:44 in.
  • 4:04 in.^
  • 4:46 in.^
  • 8:42 in.^
  • 11:06 in.^

  • 31:52 in.^
  • 40:26 in.^
  • 43:04 in.^
  • 46:30 in. And the special end credits music which immediately follows it.^

One of Stevens' best scores for the series, which perhaps should have gotten at least an Emmy nomination.

Jeanette Nolan is back again. I would have watched a series where she played an evil witch.

I hope I find a hot girl in a lake, too.

    Out-of-context quote...
"It's no use; you came for nothing."

  • 41:33 in. The source music^
  • 46:53 in.^
  • 48:43 in. And the special end credits music which immediately follows it.^

I think I cited every cue.

    "The Hollow Watcher"
By: Sidney Fine and William Lava (yes, they are credited and in this order, too)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WG1eKJLP6Y

This is the only effort by either composer for the series.

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.^
  • 2:21 in.^
  • 5:15 in.^
  • 7:45 in.^
  • 11:42 in.^
  • 15:37 in.^

  • 37:13 in.^
  • 41:15 in.^
  • 42:16 in.^
  • 43:55 in.^

A different kind of score with an Irish flavor.

    "Cousin Tundifer"
    By: Morton Stevens
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0q62qDE0Wc

    Highlights:
  • 0:00 in.^ (1:45 long)
  • 3:55 in.^
  • 5:42 in.
  • 6:38 in.^
  • 9:05/11:18 in.^
  • 12:14 in.^
  • 13:11/14:57/23:10/25:25/44:58 in. I'll have to compare, but I think it's just the same piece played over and over again, editing to fit the scenes.^
  • 19:25 in.^
  • 20:54 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^(both)
  • 24:52 in.^
  • 30:05 in.^

  • 41:33 in.^
  • 42:22 in.^
  • 43:32 in.^
  • 47:16 in.^
  • 48:22 in. And the special end credits music which immediately follows it.^

Guest-starring Edward Andrews, who really is a delight to watch. He's so enjoyable and seems to enjoy playing the characters that he does. This is his third and final episode starring in the series (playing a different character each time).

Morton Stevens scored the previous episode he did. And this time Stevens' creative juices for affable lawbreakers continues, with some ideas from the previous score (if I compared them, I might find tracking). I'm sure MRAUDIO enjoys this score, too.

    "The Incredible Doktor Markesan"

    Mary Tyler Moore guest stars.

I think some of the score in this episode is tracked from prior episodes.

    NO COMPOSERS CREDITED:

    "The Innocent Bystanders"

    "The Lethal Ladies"

    "The Specialists"

Shockingly, no scores for this series won an Emmy. And none were nominated. Instead Jerry and Pete (and not Morton!) got a generic "Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Music for Television" from the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony in 1961.

    ADDITIONAL, UNCREDITED, STOCK MUSIC COMPOSERS:

Culled from BMI and ASCAP. In no particular order:

  • Benny Carter.
  • Stanley Wilson.
  • Joseph Burke (listed with Wilson in a separate entry)

Normally I'd say there has been no release of the music from the series, but here it's not entirely true. It's a mixed bag and takes some explaining, but you can get some of the scoring in various ways.

In 2002 Fresh Sound Records released a CD with about thirty-one minutes of score (twelve tracks) by Pete Rugolo, which appear to be from random episodes. Also paired on that CD were tracks by him from another TV series called "Richard Diamond, Private Detective".

In 2010, Image Entertainment released the series on DVD and a number of episodes had isolated scores (although with SFX).

And then in 2017, Tadlow Music released a CD of re-recorded cues by Goldsmith from six episodes. Followed up in 2018 with a second volume of re-recorded cues from another six episodes by Goldsmith.
